I am not going to ask whether you think he's good enough or not, mainly because I'm bored of listening to people slagging him off.
Just wondering if anyone else is thinking that he might retire from international football and perhaps even move home to England?

I've gotta feeling it's his last game and it's sad to see such a legend go out like that...but I think he should carry on as England captain until Euro 2008 and then call it a day hopefully winning the trophy...I'd welcome him back at Old Trafford with open arms!

He might retire from international duty depending on the signals from McClaren- whether McClaren wants to blood new players, change the team's approach etc. Plus Beckham's age is a factor as he'll not be playing another world cup. I think he'll stay in Madrid for at least another year though as things seem to be going well there albeit not for the team. ;D

He'll be off to California or something in a year or two I expect, still wants to play in the MLS. I think he will play in Euro 2008 qualifiers but he has some real competition for his right wing spot nowso he might call it a day if he doesn't have a regular place.

I reckon he will stay at Madrid for another year like you said moxdevil, then I think he might consider coming back to Old Trafford if Sir Alex will have him. I'd love to see him in a United shirt again, whatever anyone else might say about anything that might have happened when he left. I agree with mufcadz that he should carry on untill 08, but looking at him today I saw a look I've seen in him before and I'm not sure if he would even if asked to.

I get a feeling that there McClaren will probably make a change in the captaincy before the Euros. I've always been a fan of Becks, and while I might be slightly biased because he's part of the 99 core team that we all love, I think he will retire from international play. I too think he'll play at Madrid for a year then head to the States and play in the MLS.

Beckham ends his captaincy for country but says he wants to continue playing if picked.
My feelings are that he's done the right decision as it allows for a clean slate for the new manager. Glad he says he wants to continue playing for his country and he shouldn't be discarded like trash as i've heard elsewhere (on other forums and media). Beckham was a good captain for England and though he hasn't had a particularly good world cup (like a lot of his team mates including captain- heir’s Terry and Gerrard) people shouldn't forget his performances for England. Personally we should think about moving him inside to allow for pace on the width, and make sure he becomes a centurion for England as he deserves it.
Regarding the new captain, is either Terry or Gerrard a guaranteed starter for England based on their performances for England? neither has shown club form for country. (people not remotely interested in England can ignore this)

I'd give it to Terry, you give it to a garunteed youngish starter at the back where we're least likely to change things.. If you put it on an attacking based player and he has a bad few games the criticism will not only be bigger but will be harder to take him off the pitch.

In fear of sounding biased, based on yesterday's exist, give it to Gary Neville, at least he looked like he had some passion whilst playing. Gerrard's not been performing neither has Terry nor have they been looking like leaders. To be fair, all we need is someone to tide us over for a few years untill Rooney is older and mature enough to play as the nation's new captain, as it is obvious he at some point will. I guess the most obvious choise would be Stevie Gerrard, but hopefully he will play better than he has done over this last campaign. And I do realise he's scored two goals, but still.
I don't think Terry would be a good option simply because he doesn't look comfortable as a defender for England a lot of the time and I'm not sure if he could handled the added responsibilities of that of a captain.

I'd give it to Neville as well. The captain has to be first and foremost somebody who deserves to be in the team consistently for their consistently high performances- Neville is one of the few that can claim this.
If Terry or Gerrard was given it and in my opinion their performances haven't been good enough for England to guarantee a starting position let alone captaincy, then wouldn't we have the same situation as is being claimed against Beckham- that he is only in the team because he's captain or because he's a super star?
I cannot remember when Terry had a good game for England, maybe i'm biased but he looks nothing like the Chelsea captain when he pulls on an England shirt.

Neville. That's because I'm biased, I'd fully understand if JT was given it though.
It's sad to see Beckham not have any success as England Captain, he's been my favourite player since his United days and I've always stood by him and knew he'd get over the criticism. I'd love to see him play in a United shirt just once more, Beckham a true legend. I really hope he plays at Euro 2008 and wins the fucker!..
Thanks Becks!

I cannot remember when Terry had a good game for England The only thing that comes to mind is that shot he deflected in the T&T match which would have given T&T the early lead.
