I thought Joe Cole looked good in the group games and Hargreaves was excellent when he played.

I think Joe Cole is too inconsistent to be chosen. And its funny how people used to boo Hargreaves, then suddenly he has a good game, or two and he’s now being rumored to have a shock move to OT. Oh some people. As for the best player, meh I couldn’t choose. It would be easier to pick the worst player.

RIO FERDINAND
Owen Hargreaves was surprisingly excellent, Ashley Cole and Neville played well. John Terry had times of excellence and times of Sol Campbell!.. ;D
J.Cole was too inconsistent but what a goal and a threat when on form. Lampard - what a load of bollocks, Gerrard underperformed but still chipped in with two goals. Beckham stood up when he was needed and Rooney was ok considering the lack of support. Crouch was also surprisingly good when called upon.
I choose Rio though. Every single game he was consistently good and against Sweden when he was taken out of the defence it showed significantly!

Between Rio, A. Cole and Hargreaves.
J. Cole was inconsistent and for me, hogged the ball too much and didn't pass to A. Cole enough when he would make an over-lapping run. Although that was some goal against Sweden.

I'll go for Ashley Cole, solid at left back, got forward loads when Cole helped him out on that side and had a lot of commitment at the back sprinting everywhere in the heat, and there was the tip onto the bar..
Hargreaves second mainly because of his last performance, sprinting up and down in the 120th minute doing half a teams work alone... and also palying well against Sweden.
Rio third, solid all the time, we saw just how good he is when he went off the pitch against Sweden and they fell apart completely.

Asley Cole done aight but he was on his ass most of the time in the first 2 games, and a few times against Ronaldo aswell.
Joe Cole has a good game in just goes straight tio his fat head, then he doesn't turn up again utill the critics are out.
Nobody has entioned Beckham, a bit harsh on him. I f it wasn't for his contribution we wouldn't have even got past the groups, then he beat Equador with a stunning Free kick and who's to say if he hadn't got injured he wouldn't have prouduced a winner against Portugal?
Rio was solid but fucking hell was he frustrating to watch, everytime he got the ball he tried a long ball, and they were 9/10 times fucking awefull.
Hargreeves, a good solid perofrmance and then a 10/10 performance against Portugal, didn't play everygame but because he was the only good thing to come from a shite world cup he gets my vote!

Rio's defending was awesome without a doubt, even a couple of crunching 50-50 tackles that Im NOT used to seeing with Rio but as you said his distribution was terrible with that 40 yard pass to Rooney always runnin straight through to the opposing teams keeper had me screaming at the TV Asley Cole done aight but he was on his ass most of the time in the first 2 games, and a few times against Ronaldo aswell.
