From 365:
Just 3.5 million people watched the World Cup final on ITV compared to almost 20m with the BBC, according to unofficial figures.
The Media Guardian claims that 'runaway winner' Beeb enjoyed 'the largest-ever gap in ratings between itself and ITV1 for a major sporting occasion, pushing the commercial channel to its lowest ever all-day share.
'The normal ratio in viewers between the two broadcasters for shared coverage of a major sporting event is three-to-one in favour of the BBC, but this slumped to five-to-one last night.
'The figures pushed ITV1's average all-day share below 10% for the first time ever - its previous lowest was on June 24 2004 when it pulled in just 11.5%. Yesterday, this slumped to just 9.1%,' claims the website.
While over a million extra viewers tuned into the BBC at the time of the penalty shoot-out, 100,000 viewers are believed to have turned off ITV.
"This was an unprecedented day of world-class sport and we know that major sporting events always have an impact on ratings. It's a blip not a trend," commented a spokesman for ITV.

Woaaaaaaaaaaah!...ITV must be pretty shit!.
The only reason I turned it over to ITV was to see if both channels were using the same footage so when it focussed on Lippi I turned it over only to see the same man... ;D

I kept flicking between both channels to see if the camera angles were the same (as you do, ha) but yeah, I kept it on BBC for the duration as I can’t stand adverts.

You can't really compete with the hosts and pundits from the bbc with the ones they persist on using on itv, pretty pathetic lineup, especially the hosts.

Likewise, though the BBC went and picked the worst analysists and pundits going. Half of them had trouble speaking english, or just didn't do well on camera (O'Neil, great manager but shouldn't go near television). Either way both channels got on my nerves at times

I watch BBC build up, and the ITV match. During the adverts BBC would go back on, but only after the Budwesier adverts.
