Match Of The Month Part Two
Our second review of the match of the month is written by Keano16
LIVERPOOL (0) vs. MANCHESTER UNITED (1)
Anfield
March 3rd.
Four days after a nail-biting 3-2 win over Reading in the FA Cup, the next game in United’s diary was a trip to Anfield, for a lunch-time fixture against Liverpool.
Every fan in the country could feel the excitement and anticipation coming from the nervous Chelsea camp as United prepared for one of their toughest fixtures of the domestic campaign.
Through-out the match, Mourinho and his staff were encouraged by a United side producing errors. For large parts of the game, Liverpool were the stronger outfit, and most notably, Welshman Bellamy won his own personal battle against giant Nemanja Vidic. Vidic, a beast and unbreakable in the centre of defence was often forced onto the flank by Bellamy, and was made to look - for once - human.
Despite this being a game between arguably the hottest rivals in the league, the entertainment value did not score highly at all. I can’t remember a more boring game between the sides.
I must tell you that I was watching this game in Shamrock’s Irish Bar. In Lanzarote. If you’re Irish, you’re either a United fan or a Liverpool fan, so I thought there was a good chance we’d get a 50/50, half-n-half support. Throughout the match, if you were a blind man, you wouldn’t know there were any customers in the place. Until the final whistle. Or not long before that.
Good teams can play badly and still go home with the bacon. Manchester United had done this many times before. But, deep into injury time, when Jose Mourinho was no doubt expecting United to drop points, John O’Shea won United the game, and I quickly realised that every customer in the bar was indeed a United fan.
Player Of The Month
This month’s write-up is by redom
Up until this month United had been unusually lucky with injuries, but for the first time this season we had a spate of first teamers absent for a run of games and needed someone to step up and carry the team through, unsurprisingly that player was Cristiano Ronaldo who’s had another sparkling month for United and I don’t think anyone could disagree with me choosing him as the player of the month.
He began the month by delivering the ball that led to that goal by John O’Shea and he continued influencing the team in such a way throughout March, he set up Henke for the goal that secured our place in the next round of the champions league, scored the levelling penalty to keep us in the FA cup, entertained us with his 45 minute cameo in the United vs. Europe XI game before setting up United’s first three goals in the demolition of Bolton in the premiership and then rounded off his performances for United by winning and then slotting home the penalty that sent ‘Boro crying all the way home as United progressed in the FA cup.
Whether he’s putting the ball in the back of the net himself or laying someone else in he’s always having a huge impact on the final result and it’s thanks to his outstanding form talk of the treble is still muttered around OT and United have survived key players like VDS, Neville, Saha and Scholes being out, here’s hoping that new contract keeps him at the club for years to come.
I’d also like to mention Ryan Giggs this month as well, while I don’t think he’s been quite as influential as Ronaldo I think his presence in the team has been vital while we’ve had a few experienced players out and he’s really helped keep the team out with his versatility and quality.
Gaming Article
This months gaming article is by SPR III Red Devil
For this month's gaming column, I have decided to write about possibly THE most anticipated game of the year. Halo 3. It is the last in the trilogy of one of the most played, and most popular games on the planet. With Halo 2 averaging 55,000 players online daily at any givin time, Halo 3 has a lot of hype surrounding not only the multiplayer, but the ending of the story of the war between the Covenant, and the Humans. In the game you are Spartan 117, and up until Halo 3 it was assumed that he was the last of the Spartan II's, a biologically altered super soldier, in armor called Mjolnir, with its own protective energy shield. The games take place in the year 2552 A.D. However, in Halo 3 it has been hinted that there are more Spartans left. And you will be fighting along side them.
As for the campaign, Bungie and Microsoft have promised that it will be much better than the one from Halo 2, which was a bit disappointing to many. However, what really captures players like myself and keeps them coming back to play the game, is the multiplayer. On Xbox Live you can play game types with people ranging anywhere from 2v2 to 8v8. Also, with Xbox Live expanding throughout all of North America and Europe, and Australia, you can play with people from all parts of the world. Halo 2, being an Xbox game and not an Xbox 360 game, is still the most played online game on the planet. Halo 3 only promises to be much, much better.
Additions to Halo 3 include; an all new re-vamped AI system making enemies harder to kill, and you teamates much smarter. Also, there are new guns and vehicles. Most information on these things are being withheld until release. But we know the is a rumor of a gun called the "Man Cannon" which proves to be a very interesting looking gun. As far as vehicles they have released screen shots and information on only one. The Mongoose. It is basically a four wheeler, supposed to be able to get up to 50 kilometers an hour. It is to be used for scouting and reconaissance, it is hard to drive however and shouldn't be used for battle purposes, with not armor or weapons. This vehicle was built solely for speed.
Well, thats about it for this month's game article. As the slogan goes for Halo 3... Finish the Fight.
