If the race director followed the rules the race would have finished under a safety car. which would be perfectly legal, nothing like what has transpired. What transpired is an actual race in Formula One. That's a good thing.

The rules were not applied fully they've admitted to it, so just change the rules to benefit RB? All I wanted was a fair race, no collisions etc and if it was a fair race Hamilton was winning all day long. Even if the roles were reversed had Hamilton won it like that I'd be disgusted. Never seen anything like that in my years of following the sport.

Like saying an offside goal stands in the last seconds of title deciding game because the ref says the offside rule has been abolished in that moment of the game, surely or am I missing something? Not that I have any real interest in F1,just going on what I saw & have read/heard.

Basically like being 3-0 up on Liverpool in the final game of the season, a title decider and the ref giving Liverpool a penalty AND THEN moments before it's taken says the the next Goal wins the game. Fucking ridiculous how it ended.

I think that, given the nip and tuck during the last races of the season; for the F1 World Championship to be decided by one lap, with one driver on fresh tyres, and one on worn ones , is not really the way to decide it. Nic Latife , DEFINITELY off Louis’s Christmas card list! Hamilton had the chance to pit and chose not to. The only people who have seen issue with the last race going to the last lap in a straight shootout are Hamilton/Mercedes fanboys who don't recognise that they're basically supporting the Scousers of Formula One. Don’t know why you’re alluding to ‘fan boys’ don’t level that at me! I was simply alluding to the fact that to end a season with one lap seems unfair to everyone. And the (newish) race controller seemed to be making it up on the hoof. First no cars could un-lap themselves, and then they could. Ridiculous.

Nic Latife , DEFINITELY off Louis’s Christmas card list! Definitely not the way it should have gone and the FIA fucked up by trying to squeeze in an actual racing lap when it probably should have finished under the safety car... Mercedes to appeal but it won’t go anywhere... Hamilton deserved to win that race... Wonder how Charlie Whiting would’ve seen it?

I think Mercedes were banking on the race finishing behind the safety car. I think Mercedes have a case because rules are rules but F1 has suffered from overbearing rules. Is it even racing anymore? If there wasn't time to finish the race they should have let Hamilton pit and restart the race off the start line.

They didn't pit surely because they had the lap times of cars that needed to un lap themselves & obviously calculated that the safety car would be out for the remainder of the race?

The job of the Race Director is to make decisions like the one that was made as the race happens, due to the nature of the sport. Racing incidents, safety cars, 'in moment' allowances can all be sorted out within the timeframe of a 58 lap race. Here are the facts: - Hamilton was first before and after the ruling - Hamilton had the opportunity to change his tires, twice, under a safety car and chose not to - Verstappen/Red Bull gambled and won - Verstappen was still behind Hamilton for the restart and still had to get the overtake. Howling at FIA because the Race Official actually made the last lap of the last race of the season about racing is Scousery.

Maybe not you, but more the people on Twitter who have wet themselves that Mercedes and Hamilton haven't got a favourable decision for once. The rules changed for everyone.

First, What a season! Will be one of the most memorable and talked about for a long time! Lewis and Max both deserved to win the title and anyone that says that one deserved more than the other is fan boying a little too hard.
Michael Masi and the FIA poorly managed this season, gave too much power to RB and Mercedes for the sake of entertainment. Should have made decisions at the end of this race sooner rather than stalling until the last possible second. It was mentioned in the FIA ruling for 48:12 that all teams agreed at the beginning of the year that they preferred to end a race under racing conditions and that the rule states "any" not "all" cars can unlap themselves under a safety car. If Masi interrupted it that way then should have made that decision in lap 55/56 not sector 2 of lap 57. Also was mentioned that the Safety car pitting sign was flashed and according to the rules, its mandatory for it to pit that lap once it's flashed.
Lewis and Mercedes only has themselves to blame for losing in the last lap though. Poor Strategy and not pitting Lewis for fresher tyres left him stranded on really worn out Hards compared to Max's 3-4 Lap used Softs. He could have pitted under the VSC and still held the lead. They gambled and lost. plain and simple. RB bet in hopes for the possible one lap dash to the finish and it played into their favor. I feel bad for Lewis because he raced his heart out to get beat by things completely out of his control. He was humble in defeat but I think this is good for him, because next year he will come back hungry to win.

If Hamilton had pitted under the safety car then Verstappen would have stayed out and Hamilton would have lost anyway. Once they let the lapped cars through there was only one result.
And Bestie please don’t call me a fanboy or a Scouser…I am neither and I greatly resent the descriptions…

And Bestie please don’t call me a fanboy or a Scouser…I am neither and I greatly resent the descriptions… Yep, Louis’ engineer said that he couldn’t box as he’d have lost track position ,the result-irrespective of who won-completely destroyed what had been until then, a brilliant season, the best I’ve seen since Senna v Prost or Mansell v Piquet ,in the glory days of McLaren and Williams. RIP Sir Frank btw, the ornery bugger was an absolute legend!
