After Roger Federers amazing victory at wimbledon it got me thinking that who is the greatest sportsperson ever? Ive had this discussion with a few of my mates and we seem to be split on the verdict! I think we should settle it once and for all!
Here are some of the candidates whcih get mentioned:
Pele Michael Jordan Lance Armstrong Pete Sampras Martina Navratilova Alexander Popov Muhammed Ali Sir Donald Bradman Michael Schumacher Stephen Hendry Roger Federer Tiger Woods
Feel free to add any if i have missed some!
I will have to give my vote to martina navratilova! Winning so much during her career and playing a physical game like tennis until age 50! The motivation to keep going and beating younger players! Plus having to deal with all her off field stuff! She is a legend!
She won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles (an all-time record), and 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. She won the women's singles title at Wimbledon a record 9 times. She is one of just three women to have accomplished a career Grand Slam in singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. She holds the open era record for most singles and doubles tournament wins (167 and 177 titles respectively). She also recorded the longest winning streak in tennis history (74 matches in a row)

Ex-Golfer, Jack Nicklaus.....he's won more majors than Tiger Woods or any other golfer, over his whole career. Nicklaus is the most successful golfer of all time.

Muhammed Ali......... Mention his name in any country anywhere in the world and I would bet my ass to a pound they will know of him !!!! The most outstanding boxer ever to grace this planet.......... BUT......... He used his fame and fortune to help others and for me this makes him not only the greatest sportsman to have ever lived it also makes him an exceptional human being too. He was the most skilled boxer you will ever see - he was highly intelligent and excelled at public speaking - he is a wonderfull family man - he stood strong for everything he believed in - even when they threatend to take away his world titles and stop him doing what he loved most (boxing) he still said NO to Vietnam !!!! How many of todays prima donnas would have balls as big as his NONE ... !!!! Muhammed Ali stands head and shoulders above every minion that ever played any sport and he always will do for me..... The GREATEST sportsman and one of the GREATEST human beings....... Ali, Ali, Ali, Ali !!!!
