vs Firstly, their talisman Mr Totti is not in the squad for the return at OT; which is obviously good news. Secondly, what team/formation do we think SAF will go with for this game? I certainly think that Rio will be out (or rested at least). Therefore, Brown and Pique will fill the central defensive positions. It would be no surprise to see the Neviller and Silvestre make an appearance on Wednesday; all things being well of course. I will stick my neck out and go for the following lineup. VDS Hargreaves - Brown - Pique - Evra Carrick - Scholes - Anderson Ronaldo - Rooney - Giggs Subs - PiG, Neville, Silvestre, Park, Tevez SAF seems to favor Scholes and Giggs for Champs League for their experience. I think the game will end in a 2-1 win to United surprisingly enough.

I'd agree with your line up except for giggs.. i'd have Nani or Park ( his last 2 performances have been fantastic ) in his place...oh and we can have 7 subs in europe u know ...

I stand (well sit actually) corrected on the subs. Then again, do we have 7 fit substitutes?!

Good team andoverred but I agree with the rest about Park starting. And there mihgt be an arguement to having Hargreaves sitting in front of the back four as extra protection with all hte injuries rather than at right back. Though I suppose Anderson can do that job very well too.

I pretty much agree with andoverred's team there although I have the feeling that Ronaldo may be on the bench following some comments from the Roma players after last weeks game. O'Shea needs to be dropped I think to give him a wake up call after his performance against Middlesbrough. If Ronaldo is dropped we may see Park on the right and Tevez to start. Giggs needs to be left on the bench.
Im gonna go for a 2-1 win. I think we will conceed with a slightly dodgy defence but it will be too late for them and a tie with Barca should await us.

Van Der Sar
Hargreaves - Brown - Pique - Evra
Scholes - Carrick - Anderson
Ronaldo - Rooney - Tevez Giggs doesn't deserve to start, if not Tevez, then Park in front of him. It would also be nice if Neville would start...

1-1, They score first but Giggs equalises:
VDS NEVILLE EVRA PIQUE BROWN PARK GIGGS ANDERSON HARGREAVES CARRICK ROONEY
Someone already said the reasons for resting Ronnie, Scholes has played a lot recently give him a rest before Arsenal, Tevez will come on as will Silvestre and Nani if fit.

Fergie mentioned that Nani would be fit for Wednesday. Seems pretty likely We'll see him at some stage.

Nani is set to return after April 9th. But there is a good chance he is in the Euro line up. I dont want to see us cut our 2 goal lead. I WANT US TO BLOODY WIN THIS! No FUCKING DRAW!!
2-0 United! Rooney and Tevez to score! Ronaldo to bust the keeper's face with his freekick!

I think Neville will get a start here. Wellbeck to fill a gap on the bench too.

I WANT US TO BLOODY WIN THIS! No FUCKING DRAW!! If we score the first goal we'll knock the stuffing out of Roma. My gut feeling is that we'll win the game 2-0. I can't see Neville starting this game at all but he'll probably be on the bench alongside Silvestre, i'd disagree with andoverred's back-four slightly... I think Ferguson will go with: Brown- O'Shea- Pique- Evra.

I think we will need to score in this game. I Hope nani or park start instead of giggs. 1-0 to united I reckon rooney with a goal. ronaldo to start on the bench and come on in the second half and do some nice tricks to piss pizarro off.

I think Neville will get a start here. Wellbeck to fill a gap on the bench too. In my opinion, Neville won't start the game. In relation to Wellbeck, i don't see Fergie putting him on the bench at all.

I think Nev will definitely be involved at some stage if the game is going well, unfortunately it's too big for him to start, but perhaps he could start the Arsenal game if he gets some time here. United need the encouragement and what better example than Nev coming back, he's been a massive influence we've missed over the last year.
Hopefully Nani, Saha and Silvestre will get involved too, it's really important to show we have others coming back and that there's some competition for places at this time.
Pique will probably start, he's excellent on the ball and United will probably go for possession football and keep Roma in their own half for a long time, i think we'll nick one before half time and go on to rest a few players with no goals in the 2nd half.
I hope Tevez gets a start in this game, he's been a wild card so far but he can be massive in Europe if he gets the chance. He must learn to play out wide though, because Fergie has no use for a drop off role in Europe and Anderson has that attacking midfield role in the bag at the moment, nobody else gets up and down as well and creates.

i really dont think o'shea should start the game. our defence always looks shaky when he is one of the full back positions and to play o'shea and pique in the middle would be suicidal as they have never played with each in those positions...the defence should be... the one thing roma have is pace on the flanks with mancini and possibly guily, and their left back tonneto i think his name is, caused us plenty of problems last time..so hargreaves pace will be valiable. rather than o'shea's more laboured approach.. pique will not let us down, the only game he has struggled in was against bolton away and thats because he is not used to the physical style of bolton, but he played a full season in Spain and earned rave reviews. european football is what he is suited for
Hargreaves Pique Brown Evra
