RONNIE O’SULLIVAN had an early finish and a threesome last night — but it was all within the rules.
Snooker’s ultimate bad boy landed his third world title with a one-sided 18-8 win over Ali Carter and pockets £250,000 and world No 1 status next term.
He joins an exclusive club including Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry as a triple Crucible winner.
O’Sullivan, who destroyed seven-time world champ Hendry 17-6 in the semi, was not all that impressed with himself.
And he said: “To be honest I struggled. I almost feel as if the semi was my final.
“Often it is not about the performance but the result in the final, getting over the line and just winning.
“It was a professional performance. It feels like a relief.
“You want to perform for the crowd but I am always my worst critic. I am in fantastic company to have won three titles. I would like there to be more but who knows?
“I’ll have a think over the summer and maybe it’s time to take a break from the game.”
O’Sullivan’s landslide victory also marks the end of a 17-day journey in which he has thrilled the crowds and built bridges with the game’s top brass.
All this may help out in his looming disciplinary hearing with World Snooker over his lewd outburst at the China Open in March — and it has certainly put the authorities in an awkward position.
O’Sullivan, 32, has been the overwhelming crowd pleaser at one of the most exciting championships for years and helped put snooker back on the sportsfan’s radar.

Carter did his best to compete and contributed enormously to the tournament.
But in his first major final of any sort he ran out of juice at the end of a long hard road as O’Sullivan wrapped up his win by 8.45pm, just two frames into the final session.
Watched by his mum Maria, partner Jo Langley and two of his kids Ronnie Jnr and Lily, O’Sullivan, added: “The only one missing tonight was my dad. I love you dad.”
Ronnie Snr is serving time for murder but may be out on parole the next time his uniquely talented son graces another Crucible final.
Carter, 29, was clearly emotional after such a hammering — and the grief he had been holding back following the death of both his grandmothers in recent weeks came close to spilling out.
He has the consolation of £125,000 and a place in the top eight next season.
He said: “I’m disappointed to have come second. But I’d like to thank my mum and dad for coming along to support me.
“It’s sad I didn’t get to lift the world title but I’ll be back here next year.”
Well done to Ronnie he played very well
