He just won his 14th major at the US open and at times he looked in terrible pain with his knee. This man has to be the greatest example of a sporting icon in professional sport, him and federer at least.

Federer just got Ass raped/ slapped in the face, then spat on a few weeks go. Tiger is grrreat but he is not the cool headed man he used to be. He throws hissy fits and chucks clubs around when he miss hits shots

Golf isn't a proper sport though is it? Terrible pain in his knee and he played on lol what he walked around, )if that considering they usually use those little karts and have someone else carry their clubs) not exactly heroic is it?

Of course golf is a proper sport! It's more of a sport than snooker, if you ask me But what about Michael Jordan? I think he's the ultimate sportsman, just consider some of the titles and trophies he's won: 6 x NBA Champion (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 1998) 5x NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998) 14x NBA All-Star (1985-1993, 1996-1998, 2002-2003) 6x NBA Finals MVP (1991-1993, 1996-1998) 1x NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1988) 10x All-NBA First Team Selection (1987-1993, 1996-1998) 1985 NBA Rookie of the Year 1985 NBA All-Rookie Team 3x NBA All-Star Game MVP (1988, 1996, 1998) ... and the list just keeps going...

When I talk about the ultimate sportsman, I don't necessarily mean of the past but more in the present. TIger woods is the most dominate sportsman of his generation, 14 majors and closing jacks all the times. Its not just his sporting genius I respect but his professionalism and attitude towards sport and greatness in modern sport. If you want to inspire your kids in sport people like tiger woods, roger federer are the examples in which to do that, you can't say that about alot of footballers. Footballers don't make great role models anymore. For me Tiger woods is the greatest sportsman of my life time, I remember winners like schumacher and sampras but woods achieves incredible things in a sport that is extremely hard to be consistent at.

Nadal is getting the better of Federer,he destroys him on clay, and he'll beat him at wimbledon this year.

Yes nadal spanked him but federer is the grass court king, Nadal has the power and attitude to win so maybe your right.

Its got to be Lance Armstrong. He won the Tour de France seven consecutive times, from 1999 to 2005. Previous to this achievement, he also survived testicular cancer, a germ cell tumor that metastasized to his brain and lungs in 1996. His cancer treatments included brain and testicular surgery and extensive chemotherapy.
Probably the best sportsman ever.

In my opinion a proper sport needs to be physically demanding, and requires you to be in peak physical condition whilst having the element of skill as well. No doubt there's a lot of skill in golf but there's skill in tiddlywinks, I wouldn't call that a sport. I think if you include Woods then you'd have to include the dominant Bowls player over the last 10 years.
I'm gunna opt for Ryan Giggs!

Sigh... Its difficult to say this without being majorly offensive, but that is one of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen on here. Golf isn't a "proper sport"? Just, wow.
