U18s: West Ham 0 United 0United’s Academy Under-18s kicked off the new season on Saturday with a 0-0 draw away to West Ham.
In entertaining game in which both teams had chances to secure the win, the Reds peppered the Hammers’ goal but the home side’s goalkeeper, Adam Street, was in fine form.
Reds shot-stopper Gary Woods also had to be on top of his game to keep West Ham out.
Evandro Brandao had United's best chance of the game after good work from skipper Matty James in midfield. But the Portuguese forward was denied by Steele, who also kept out Federico Macheda's follow-up.
It was a promising first performance from the young Reds at Little Heath, even if Paul McGuinness’ side couldn’t find the finishing touch to snatch all three points.
United’s U18s are next in action on Saturday 30 August at home to Norwich City.
United: Woods; Strickland, Gill, Brown, Wootton; Norwood, James, Petrucci (Brady 64), Stewart (Tunnicliffe 80); Brandao (Ajose 53), Macheda. Subs not used: Curran, Devlin.

West Ham's academy is pretty good judging on the players they've produced in the last few years so this result isn't bad.
