We lost a decade of youth development as our CEO was ALLEGEDLY pissing about having a jolly while the underage sides were left go to ruin. GAA and rugby swooped in and have targeted the talented kids. Huge complacency coming home to roost. Do you see a fix? Not for some time. Even if you look at young Irish players in England, none of them are at top clubs any more. When I was growing up, you had Irish players at Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. Now, hardly any and they never break through. There are lads playing for the national side that I have literally never heard of. And as a rugby player I was an incredibly rare beast, whereas now every second kid now plays rugby especially in Leinster. And I’ve also noticed basketball and athletics starting to make serious impacts in numbers. I think this shitshow might make heads roll but it’ll take awhile.

I think of the Rep of Ireland and some good players spring to mind. Obviously world class talent like Keane and Irwin, but other players who weren't in that category but were still decent/good/very good. Looking at the 2002 World Cup squad there was Given, Kelly, Staunton, Harte, Dunne, Keane, Holland, McAteer, Kilbane, Robbie Keane, Duff, Quinn. Some of those weren't great but at least they were Premier League players. A decade or so earlier there was Bonner, Phelan, Irwin, McGrath, Houghton, Sheridan, Aldridge. Now, who is Bazunu? Knight? Cullen? Browne? Collins? I honestly don't even know who they are.

From stuff I’ve read over the years, the Irish setup has been poorly managed for decades. I know Roy Keane’s frustrations that it’s all about the craic and all that and it’s not taken seriously. Well that’s at the very top of the chain, the senior setup. It’s no surprise in that regard that further down at age group and grassroots level it’s being ran like shite too.

We play too many sports on this island to be truly outstanding at any of them and football is way back in the pecking order. A small country only has so much capacity to produce sporting talent and alot of it is sucked up by the GAA and Rugby. The schools dictate alot when it comes to sport, so the FIA should be doing more in schools to promote the game. I dont think its about money either because the FIA have more resources that the Croatian FA and the difference is staggering.

The schools dictate alot when it comes to sport, so the FIA should be doing more in schools to promote the game. I dont think its about money either because the FIA have more resources that the Croatian FA and the difference is staggering. This is true. There was the famous story of Warren Gatland being taken to see a Galway GAA game when he was first with Connacht. When asked if he enjoyed it he said he had but also said he spotted at least 2 full international rugby players and 3 more with the potential to play for Ireland, which he considered a waste of resources. In a country of this size we cannot have so many sports fighting for attention. In New Zealand you basically have 2, rugby and cricket. I know for a fact that GAA also made a concerted effort in the last few decades to recruit kids in Dublin. Pretty much every parent I speak to remarks on the fact the GAA clubs are really welcoming and open. They fought back against the gains made by rugby. Football here did bugger all. The results speak for themselves- Dublin GAA has never been stronger, Leinster rugby (and Ireland) is regularly up at the top and football is completely in the shit.

3 games in this break for most sides? Wouldn’t it be quicker to just shoot the players?
Absolute nonsense from FIFA as per.

Is Ole managing England?
83 minutes played, 1-1, desperate for a goal, strikers on the bench. Number of changes? 0.
Edit: Captain fantastic saves the day.
