Went to see it last night, its was crap. I mean the visuals were great but characters, storyline were seriously poor. I can't believe people are saying how great the film is. Just a pointless film.

I quite enjoyed it as far as hollywood films go. I wasn't expecting a good story going in so I wasn't too disappointed. It does like brilliant, especially in 3-D. Afterwards I couldn't help feeling that those aliens were serious dicks.

Yeah visually it was great, although all the other 3d films have used it better. And those fucking aliens, they were supposed to be so intelligent and when faced with gun ships attacking them they fire bow and arrows, not just once, but repeatedly to no avail. There's just so many stupid things in the film, the dialogue being the worst. The aliens were a mix of last of the mohicans and the smurfs.
I can't understand all the hype and how it's become the highest grossing movie of all time, everyone who sat through almost 3 hours in that packed cinema looked disappointed when they left.
I wanted to leave about 1 hour into the film.

you bunch of moan heads must of been watching the wrong avatar, its the best film i've seen in ages. Visually its stunning no doubt, but the story ties it all together really nicely in my opinion, theres a very poignant message in there. you could of heard a pin drop where i watched it and no one looked dissappointed when it was over. Its the highest grossing movie ever because it really is the bench mark on 3d films and we'll be seeing alot more of them, personally I feel 3D was a bit of a rip off but i wouldn't of wanted to see avatar any other way.

i disagree entirely. i watched it in 3D and although not good enough to be considered one of the best films ever made, it was quite possibly the best trip to the cinema ive ever had. it was fantastic.
probably mostly because of the marvellous world cameron created along with 3D. awesome.
whoever above said other films use it better...........like what? the scenary was designed for 3D from the ground up.
so much so that there is no way id ever watch the film again NOT in 3D, wouldnt want to tarnish my memories of the work that went into it.

I thought it was brilliant, I enjoyed it more than any other film I have seen at the cinema. The 3d was ace and I loved the characters and visuals, I felt quite emotional at the end, it really was a wonderful experience.

Epic film.
I was never expecting a emotional roller coaster or anything. Or amazing acting but if was effective. I was totally taken by the film and it's visual effects.
It's worrying for me on the other hand, as I am an actor the film high lights that actors may not be needed in the future. Ouch !

@ ericactor1
That's the thing about Avatar though, you are just taken in by the Special 3D effects. Has nothing to do with the acting, storyline, plots or themes. All of these are simply overshadowed by the cgi experience. Went to see this, left before the end....

Saw it on blue-ray, so I'm not clouded by the awesomeness of the 3-D experience, and I have to say it is one of the most predictable, boring, cliched movies I've ever seen, just a glorified action/romance movie. Anyone who thinks that the movie is one of the best ever needs to watch it again without the 3-D stuff. If they still think it's the best ever, they are probably big fans of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movies so shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Sleepless in Seattle is a classic, left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Haven't seen this yet but based on Ice's recommendation i think i'll get it on blue-ray.

It's a must see. It's what we have too look forward too in the future. Was very happy when Hurt Locker won the Oscar. I showed the Oscars still care about acting. Plus it was James Cameron ex wife whom won it ! Ouch !

Saw it on dvd last week. Same sentiments really, visually superb great action scenes but the script was like a 7 year was told to re-hash "dances with wolves" and "a man called horse" with some crazy blue shit added in.

Avatar is worth watching ONLY for the visual effects and 3D which are pretty memorable.. The rest of it, I felt was rubbish.. Anybody see Inception, yet... What a masterpiece by Nolan.. Absolutely, mind numbingly brilliant.. He is got to be right up there with the best film makers of his generation.. I highly recommend it and would even say it's a must watch.. PJ, I think was referring to not having seen a classic in recent times and this has all the makings of one.. Magnificento
