A big hello to all Administrators, senior Admin, Senior Moderators and moderators, in fact everyone concerned with this forum.
I would just like to point out that there seems to be a problem with your website in the fact, that it takes quite a long time to refresh after you have posted a comment.
Perhaps this is due to animated GIFS, relatively large signatures, video signatures etc. If I can make a suggestion, is it possible for you to actually restrict the size of the signature as it does take a long time to download the page, even if its in my cache.
Plus, if possible, I suggest you could delete a great number of posts that no-one answers to anymore, those that are over 2 years old.
I could be wrong, in which case I will look like a wally, if not, then I think it would be a good idea to do the above actions to improve the forum page.
Many thanks in advance.

All signatures should be 600(w) x 300 (h) as stated in the rules.
If all people abided by this, (yourself included!) maybe there would be less of a problem...?

Thank you very much for the reply Scott. I couldn't find the rule page at all so, I think it would be a good idea to post a thread about signatures and their pixel size. This is very important, so that we can message effectively and rapidly. If you wish, I can post a new thread about this, if some people have either forgotten or for new members. With all due respect, a new member doesn't want to wait 2-3 minutes while the page refreshes so, I think it is in the your best interests to let people know. Note: I am not trying to tell you your job, on the contrary, I am just surprised that no-one has mentioned it before. I still stick by the fact that many thousands of old threads slow down the system a great deal. Remember, the fact that the more people log on, the slower the page and the system, yet there are very few people who log on during the day so, this is not the reason. Anyway I hope to continue posting as I feel that there is no other site that promotes Manchester United as well as this one.

Mate, look in the rules board. Before posting it might be wise for a new member to look at the forum rules that are clearly and nicely put into a separate section. Hint: look in the section "Problems/Questions/News/Rules". Found anything that stands out?
And I am surprised that the site is slow for you. I am currently in India and the site runs just as fast as it did when I was in Los Angeles. You are in France and should not have that big of a problem. Check your computer's internet connection and maybe purge your cache. If you have any downloading program running in parallel then it might be wise to limit its bandwidth. Proboards' servers are very fast and they can handle twice the image sizes and graphics. Do check some of their heavier forums especially the ones for graphics designers. Proboards is one of their favorite forum hosters.

Proboards is one of their favorite forum hosters. As you know, if it wasn't the signatures that slow down the refresh rate of the webpage, then why post rules on the images sizes? I do not need to go onto other forums, because I know full well, that there are many MySQL servers that are adapted to suit the type of forum that you are hosting. Perhaps you are aware that there might be many thousands of spam posts amongst those that are genuine so, actually purging them is a full-time job. Anyway, have a nice evening.

Mate, answer this please... if you are in France and have this refresh page problem, then why do I, in India, do not with a 256kpbs (avg.) connection? Mind you that despite India's IT sector and population, France has a larger global/international bandwidth than India.
I would have considered country disputes but I used this same exact laptop in USA. Why do our members in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, USA, Canada, Mexico, Lebanon, Egypt, Ivory Coast, UAE and Middle East, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, India, China, Thailand, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Russia, Iraq (The country is still at war is few means and connections to the outside world), Afghanistan (see Iraq), Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and many others that flee my mind at this hour of the night, not have this problem. Are they just timid and have not spoken up, or is this a localized problem?
Sometimes the server goes under maintenance and affects the access to the site, but it lasts for a brief period. You are the first one in my memory who has had this issue for a prolonged period. The site is the same, it is not different for different people. If one has a problem where dozens others do not, then logic suggests that it is a localized problem. You may want to check your connection and the cache.
What browser are you using?
EDIT: Purging the site is not that tough, however ProBoards automatically locks threads that are old and archives them and only opens up localized access to pages when a members sends the server a request to see them.

Many thanks for your explanation. And I know it wasn't my place to tell you how to do your job. I just wanted to know if there were any others who had problems with the refreshment of the webpage. Whether its slow or not, I will still be here in any case.

Robert, it is not about our jobs and how we go about it, rather the problem that you are facing. It is not (as far as we know) a forum wide problem. If it is then we'd like to know that so that we can take it up with ProBoards. In the meantime, try to delete your cache, and I am certain that you are already using one, but if not, get a firewall and I highly recommend use of Firefox with AdBlock Plus and NoScript installed in it.
I hope that you can give us more information so that we can get to the bottom of this. And if any other member get this problem then we'd like to know about it, as only the we can approach ProBoards.
