I agree with you mate I think he is a great footballer when on form. I think he has confident issues do, one or two poor games seems to make him drop his head, which ultimately results in him having one or two months of bad form. This is why I have always backed Wayne Rooney as captain. Captaincy has tamed many a ferocious player, and I will include Wayne Rooney as a ferocious player. Giving him some responsibility will calm him down perhaps, but what we miss is someone vocal. Rio is, but not in the sense of Wazza. If there is one player who can get Carrick together, it is Wazza. I don't know if you agree, but he is the only player who can inspire both the Manchester United team and England team.

Interesting points made, but I might add that it´s no use trying to bring in players who haven´t played any part in the qualifying process. It is a squad game, even at the national level.
Carrick or Huddlestone? Carrick anyday!

Milner sat out of training today and Barry fighting to get fit so maybe there's and opening for Carrick. @ wytheshawered1973 Totally agree with you mate if Wazza was captain he would inspire Carrick and the other players around him a lot more, if not he would simply just beat Carrick into form.

Well, Wazza has that fighting instinct, a winners attitude like Keano or Viera(hence the reason why Arsenal win f-all now.) I think Sir Alex wants to appoint him captain, but not just yet, that I am sure of. Unfortunately, he has to do it before he retires.

I don't think it will ever be Rooney, you need someone to keep him on a leash. Maybe Vice Captain but I could see it being Evra, Vidic or Fletcher. Fletcher is like Keane so I could see that most likely.

Fletcher is like Keane so I could see that most likely. That is a very interesting name thrown into the mix. I have seen many games where he is pretty quiet, but he doesn't half protect his team-mates. A footballer with a lot of bottle and a lot of passion.

Fletcher was backed by a few last season when we had that spate of injuries, but then Fergie opted for Evra, which IMO was an inspired choice. Think he's been cemented as next in line after Rio now.

Fletcher and Rooney to worth players of the captain arm band. Ferguson has said before that Rooney will one day captain United. Once he controls his temper, I think as he mature he will become a more worthy captain.

Carrick is very, very lucky to get in the squad imo. He hasn't played a competetive game in months and his form before that was shocking. There's no doubt when he has confidence and is playing at his best he is one of the finest passers in the world and one of the top centre midfield players in the league. I hope he gets a few games in South Africa and performs near these standards. He's one of the best examples of a confidence player.

No offence but the fact carrick is in the england squad proves capello didn't stick to picking players on form. He left walcott at home because he wasn't doing it and hadn't played well enough but took carrick who has had one good game this season against arsenal and couldnt get a look in near the end of the season. He done the same with bent, kept heskey and left bent and his 23 odd goals in england. It is ridiculous that carrick has gotten in front of the likes of scotty parker and tom huddlestone.
I used to be a carrick fan but the best thing that could of happened to michael was missing the world cup which would really have made him step up his game. He got in the team because people reckon he's a good passer of the ball and he plays for united of course.

Spot on mate, I rate both Parker and Huddlestone very highly and it's a joke there not there ahead of Carrick. I've a few mates who are West Ham fans and they were sure Parker would make it. Very inconsistent managing by Capello.

Parker and Huddlestone may have had a better season than Carrick this season, but as far as who is the better player Carrick by a mile. Cast your mind back to when we first signed him, he changed the whole complexion of the team and led us to three premierships. He looses his form for one season and we don't win the league ? Tell you anything ?

Fuck off, until the last season and a half Carrick was brilliant, his form in the past season and a half has been patchy, has knocked his confidence and he seems too scared to play riskier balls. Carrick is a good player but needs to rediscover his confidence. He's not gonna do that sitting on England's bench.

Gotta agree with Dan. Untl this season carrick really seemed worth what we payed for him, even if he wasn't ever gonna be thought of as the best centre mid. He helped us so much more than most people can see.
