Yes, you've pinpointed the key word there with unerring accuracy SET. Oh actually I didn't know there was a public following of those former colonies, I wonder if that's a common phenomenon among former colonial powers?

I don´t live in France but I´d guess it is because of the HUGE number of immigrants from those former colonies. Besides: half the french squad is born outside of France.

I know but I mean I wonder if there's a parallel, obv not with former British colonies, but let's say Portugal's former African colonies.

They had Angola, Mozambigue and the island of Cape Verde. They are hardly the greatest of football nations. Do not forget Brazil though, weren´t they a colony of the portuguese? Thay still get some players from Brazil, Deco for example plays for Portugal, but is actually brazilian.

Ok...I don´t know really so let´s hope somebody who has a clue makes a wild guess. There aren´t so many great colonial powers though...so maybe it´s just a french fenomenon. I can´t think of the chinese following the sporting achievements of their former "colonies".

Angola competed in the last WC though, did they attract support from Portugal? Mozambique's greatest ever was Eusebio, so Portugal owe them something.

As Manchester United fans, we have no shortage of ideas.. ;D I agree with you though about the mute button. Imagine, TF1 in France is following 3 teams; France, Ivory Coast and Algeria so, you can imagine everthing that an England player does that is considered wrong, will be criticised heavily... its almost in times like this that Lawrenson doesnt seem to bad. ALMOST I like Lawrenson, probably the only one who isn't pro-Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and ABU. I got that impression last year anyway, I could be wrong.

Incredibly annoying. If King Eric was at the world cup I'm sure he would have kicking the guy in the front row with one of those annoying things

One of those extremely rare things that makes Andy Gray's commentary bearable in comparison.. Had a dose of it at last year's Confed cup and really really irritating to say the least..
