Ah man, DDP. Vince and the WWF bookers completely wasted him after the buyout.
Cannot help feeling Vince's pettiness about WCW and refusal to spend money on it fucked what could have been a dream culmination of the Monday Night Wars/Attitude Era.

Cannot help feeling Vince's pettiness about WCW and refusal to spend money on it fucked what could have been a dream culmination of the Monday Night Wars/Attitude Era. Massively. The original plan was to keep WCW running for years before doing the invasion. Vince got bored and just wanted to piss on all the people he beat.

To be fair, I've read a lot of reasons the brand split didn't happen. Spike refused to waive their exclusivity deal with WWF to allow the WCW brand to stay on TNT/TBS, for example.
Also Kevin Dunn is a total cunt and was at Vince not to allow any of the WCW guys be put over by any WWF guys. There was a test match between Buff and Booker T that bombed in front of a WWF audience in Tacoma and it + Dunn convinced Vince to drop the idea. Then of course WWF didn't get most of the top WCW main eventers. Even when they did the WCW guys basically got squashed. I distinctly remember Booker T's WWF debut and thinking he was obviously second-rate.

A Japanese wrestler called Hana Kimura committed suicide today. My oldest boy is a big Japanese wrestling fan, and he's pretty broken up about it. Reading the news stories is heart breaking. She was on a reality TV show and did something that upset the fans, and they attacked her online until she killed herself. She was only 22. This sort of thing happens far too often.

Hana Kimura had everything to be a massive name in wrestling. Look, charisma, attractive and most importantly she was a brilliant wrestler and getting better. It’s a huge loss.
AEW Double or Nothing was great. The difference between Jon Moxley and Dean Ambrose is night and day.

Yeah, okay. Seeing Lex Luger scoop slam Yokozuna in the Stars and Stripes Challenge is pretty awesome. The pop is incredible. Weird seeing Luger suddenly turning face though. I'm loving this watch through.

Luger is so underrated. Probably one of the best characters in WCW from 95 til it closed.

Luger will always be remembered as Vince's failed experiment, but he certainly had a pretty good career in his own right.

Find me a bigger pop than Luger beating Hogan for the title. Also, Mike Tenay is a better commentator than JR.

But I agree with Rustin, at least part of his legacy is as Vince's failed Hulk Hogan 2.0 and a bit of a bottler (almost certainly unfairly). Cannot comment on the other thing really. I like both.

I’ll go against the grain here and say that I think Luger stank outside of his initial WCW run. Had some big moments though, beating Hogan and turning up on Nitro in particular.

This brings up a point I've been wondering about during my watch through. Is pre-Nitro WCW worth watching?

Can get every PPV as well. I'm also going to go back and watch some of the pre-New Generation stuff. Mostly for Bret's rise and the original Hart Foundation.

I’d probably start with Wrestlewar 91 and just watch the PPVs as the catchups are usually pretty good.
