From various sources... Gerrard is warning his team-mates not to get caught in the trap. 'You don't swear at them, do you?' he said. On Rooney, Gerrard added: 'I think Wayne understands. He is a fantastic player and we don't want to take any fire away from him. He always plays on the edge but Wayne has to control his emotions and take it out on opposition teams rather than referees. 'The manager stresses the importance of always having 11 men on the pitch and this tournament is going to be difficult enough so if we lose someone it will only complicate things further.' Bla bla bla bla........ You see? England already have their United scapegoat.....

As Stevie is captain now all that has preceeded his captaincy is rendered irrelevant and he is now a responsible individual it seems, what an arsehole, he's almost as big a thug as Joey Barton in my opinion.

Being handed the captaincy and now all of a sudden he thinks he is the model professional ? Rooney should kick him in the nether regions and ask him to mind his own fucking business... Seriously, I mean he is far too good a player to be told off by a thieving scum like Gerrard #furious# .. The same Stevie me who punched a man and showed the V sign to a referee.. Maybe someone should tell that bastard to shut it and for once, try and put in a decent shift for England...

jeez i wonder how you'd all feel if keano told him this. Agree its rich coming from stevieme but to be honest he is right, rooney has the foulest mouth in world football and referees tend to enjoy making names for themselves by sending off our players.

So, its ok for the French to say "Fils de pute", the spaniards "Puta", pendeco(spelling?), Couillon, connard, salopard and the refs won't understand these words, but somehow they know all the English swearwords. This stinks!!! As for Gerrard, he should really close his mouth and get on with his game, as he has no room to talk.

Aye, treating Rooney like a kid. Notice there was no mention of the dummy-spitting cashley or jt in there! Both from a team with the worst habit of mouthing off to refs. Or his club team-mate Carragher. Or acknowledging that he himself needs to kop on.
No, its all down to big bad Rooney to behave, hes the only one. The same rooney they need if they are to win a game, let alone a whole tournament.
Perhaps it would be better if they tried to take all the focus AWAY from him on all matters, not just discipline, and allow him to just fully concentrate on the game. Like fergie does when the team has a bad spell, he takes all the focus off of them.....

I think its a fair comment, Rooneys temperament and control is vastly better these days, but he does have habit of chatting back at ref's. Which as Aussiegraham has said in another thread is a key area Fifa want the refs to clamp down on for the tournament. I dont forsee any silly red cards but arent the yellow card rules pretty stringent? like you get 2 and then miss a game?

Just one hypothetical question; what would England do should Rooney say "ok, you want me to shut up, you want me to calm down, what the fuck am I doing here?" "I'll just take the next flight and you can blame the next poor sod for the England performance." They would be begging him to stay, thats what would happen. The England players apart from the Manchester United ones are hypocrites just like the fans. The very same fans who wanted Beckham and his family dead one day, and then cheering him the next day because he scored a goal against Greece.

A true captain wouldn't single out one player in his team in front of the media. Rooney may be the one with all the cameras pointed at him but he's in no way the only one guilty of this shit.
If he had any class he would've just said it's something that he's had a word with all of his players about.
If he didn't leave his stones in Rafa's sock drawer he would've taken a leaf out of Fabio's book and told the English media to stop fucking over their bloody team, and get behind them the way they're supposed to.
If he was anything like Roy Keane he wouldn't be slagging off the only England player who plays with real heart, he'd be screwing directly at the useless dead weight who spend most of their time wandering around the pitch with a thumb up their arse.
Gerrard is a hypocritical, media-pandering, bag of shite, who's done nothing as captain except pull down the confidence of England's only hope, before the competition's even started.

I am seriously starting to question how many players Capello brought on the plane?
Was it just one ?
That being Rooney
Seem's that all they talk about. The other squad members must feel like shit.
This part of the world, they are talking about Rooney that much that they have forgotten about any other good players in the tournament.
