@fletchbey
Am with you on the 2 deep lying midfielders.. Biscuits has done nothing of note so far and it's always Xavi & Xabi pulling the strings in midfield. It makes little sense having a ball winner when you enjoy 70% possession anyway.. In Euro 2008, a midfield pairing of Xavi & Senna did just fine and Alonso isn't half as bad either.. Even if Del Bosque wants to play a 4-2-3-1, with Torres struggling big time, I think it would make sense to bring in a more creative midfielder in Fabregas and play him behind Villa..
Villa struggled against Germany becoz he didn't have enough support or service. He usually plays his best alongside a strike partner or an out & out AM.. Xavi has had to drop deep owing to Biscuits limited technical ability and hence he hasn't provided enough going forward.

No. It's boring. It's funny that others feel this way, they way the media harp on I thought it was just me. Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. It's plain dull. You look back at the footage of '74 and '78 and the Netherlands didn't pass for passing sake, the passed to get somewhere. They wouldn't play 6 passes when 4 would create a goal-scoring chance. That's good to watch. Plus, as mentioned, no Plan B. No Jim Beglin, that isn't because sticking to their principles will inevitably lead to Spanish victory, it's because they clearly can't play any other way, and that's tactically poor. I really hope the Dutch score first tomorrow.

well said johnboy!!
I really do not enjoy spain in this world cup
They pack out midfield, and they pass until the opposition is bored then score a solitary goal.
I admire their ability to win, but enjoy watching germany in their full flow....
The germany spain game reminded me of our champions league final, we'd blown arsenal away felt pretty confident like Germany then met barcelona and they basically schooled us in passing and patience. Barcelona are a little prettier but spain are very robotic.
They pass pass pass but nothing gets your heart going, their forward movement is abysmal if you watch, but if you have half your team in midfield you will get a chance. They deserve respect but their football aint for me... Brazil in their pomp were the real deal,
However i really feel this is football 2010....and football evolves and this is the peak of evolution at the moment, england are Neanderthals compared to this

Sometimes. I agree with the statement about Messi at Barcelona, Pedro and Jesus Navas were entertaining when they were on, David Silva has done nothing of note all world cup. Yes they do make incisive passes, but sometimes I wonder if they would rather play a through ball that has a 50/50 chance of putting the striker 1 on 1 or they would rather turn back and look for another option, that's what I dislike.

The difference between them and the great passing teams of history is that they generally pass to feet, while teams like the 74/78 holland team passed into space. People like watching movement, thats why almost everybody preferred Germany's football to Spains.

Anyway guys, the real final is on tv tonight, Uruguay v Germany. I am pretty certain that tonights game will be better than the final. As for Netherlands, any team that beats Brazil, deserves to go through and win the final.

I would like UNited to keep the ball better yes, I have a great comparison... Argentina v germany and man utd v bayern munich....(forgetting the 2nd half) we tore bayern a new arsehole, so too did germany v argentina. (still makes me upset thinking about it) wtih fast flowing football.... however, would that have worked v barcelona? No. --as germany showed...unless you get an early goal you're fucked...

Spain aren't in the final because they've been brilliant going forward, as most brainless pundits would have us believe. They're in the final because they don't concede goals. They basically defend with the ball, and pass it around - sort of like Greece did in 04 - except slightly higher up the pitch.
1-0 Germany...header from corner. 1-0 Paraguay - Paraguay goal incorrectly ruled out and missed pen. 1-0 Portugal - Villa offside.
They have been more effective than brilliant.

Only for Germany in this world cup I don't think i would have enjoyed it.
They have scored 16 goals in all and have played some beautiful football.
They are my champions.
Holland have 10 goals but have not played aswell as Spain.
