Francis just seemed inevitable. At some point in time he was going to win that belt. Stipe is the greatest heavyweight of all time, but he was never in that fight.
It’ll be very, very interesting to see Francis vs Jones. If they stump up the cash for it.
I'd like nothing more than to see Jones get his teeth kicked in.
But in his day he has fought some of the best ever. While he is a giant cunt, his fight IQ is probably the greatest of all time. There's a reason he hasn't lost till now.

I just get the feeling that Dana was more interested in Derrick Lewis vs Francis than Jon Jones.
I don't see Francis beating Jones though. Lot of recency bias with experts, Jones will just survive 2 rounds and Francis will be gassed.

That’s because Lewis will fight for a bag of Wotsits. He won’t have to pay him what he’ll pay Jones. And there’s probably a fear aspect there that Jones will beat Francis straight out of the gate and destroy this new Mike Tyson run that Dana has been trying to build.
The smart thing is probably Francis vs Lewis first (Lewis will try to stand and bang and get ironed out) then Francis vs Jones after that.

Its funny how Derrick Lewis says he is not up for a title fight (Only ever fighter who says shit like that ) and then gets awarded a title fight right after.
Jones is already pricing himself out of the fight. His first post fight tweet was "Show me the money". Dana won't show him the money, not to the levels he would want, he's not going to get Conor money. It wouldn't surprise me if the fight never happens. We'll see a Lewis rematch or Stipe trilogy fight before we see Jones fight Francis.
As far as Francis' chances of actually beating Jones, he's absolutely in with a shot. It cant be overstated how huge Francis' wrestling exchange against Stipe was. Stipe was lost after that moment. Francis just shut him down completely. Not just shut him down, but made him look like a bad wrestler and hurt him badly in the exchange. He did that to one of the best wrestlers in the history of heavyweight. If he can do that against Stipe, he can do it against Jones. Jones won't want to stand and trade with him, he won't be able to pin him against the cage, and if last night is anything to go by, he won't be able to take him down. The two most likely outcomes are Jones wining by points fighting at distance, or Francis wining by murder punch.

Jones is by far the better fighter no doubt , but against likes of Francis and Derick lewis all it takes is one mistake and its lights out

True, guys like Francis and Lewis are always in with a chance. But both have no cardio, all Jones have to do is to make them miss in the 1st and 2nd round. Easier said than done but Jones is more than capable of doing it.

Stipe did not have the weight to throw behind his wrestling. If this was the same Stipe who showed up in the first fight, significantly heavier, he would have won that. Ngannou seems to have picked up some pointers from Usman on his takedown defense but you could see clearly that exchange he almost reverted back to type with the guillotine.
Jones does not need to do much, he has his oblique kicks and is technically a lot more sound than Ngannou. His takedown defense is also the best on the planet imo. So Ngannou definitely will be the aggressor and Jones will know how to maintain distance and out point him.
