Anyone else watch mma (mixed martial arts)? I've started watching it again recently (mostly UFC with a few PRIDE fights thrown in) and was wondering if anyone on here likes it. These guys are all brick s**t houses and it really is a fascinating sport to watch as they have to know a number of fighting styles to stand any chance and seeing these different styles go up against each other makes it really unpredictable (and violent). UFC 70: Nations Collide is next weekend, it's being held at the MEN arena (the second time they've held an event in england) and includes the likes of Cro Crop, Arlovski, Bisping and Gonzaga in the line up. Bisping, winner of TUF3, is fighting in front of a home crowd and should add to his unbeaten record against Elvis Sinosic from Australia. Unfortunately this one's a PPV event so I'll probably watch the fights later on but anyone else gonna be following it?

I enjoy watching UFC every now and then! I was considering going watching it at the MEN too.

I used to try my best following it right when it first came on to Bravo, but right now when it's on I seem to be watching something else or completely forget.
Randy Couture, legend!

^^ yeah he's one of the first fighters I really liked, plus seeing him as a coach on the first series of the ultimate fighter was a good insight into the type of person he is. He's already retired and come back once, he just keeps on going, a bit like our Giggsy ;D
I don't tend to watch a lot on tv but I've downloaded some and watched other fights on alluc etc to try and catch up on it.

UFC 70 was last night, Bisping won convincingly against Elvis Sinosic via TKO early in the second round and Gonzaga pulled off a shock by knocking out Mirko Cro Cop at the end of the first round with a brutal head kick ( view it here), which is kind of ironic given Cro Cop's known for his devastating kicks, and set up a meeting with Couture for the heavyweight title. Other results included Andrei Arlovski beating Fabricio Werdum by unanimous decision and Lyoto Machida beating David Heath also by unanimous decision.

That Gonzaga kick is crazy. What happened with Cro Cop's leg in the end?

Apparantly his leg was pretty much OK, I think he might have twisted his ankle and had a few weeks off but nothing major, very lucky considering the way he landed.
damn you tube removing the clip, oh well the whole fight can be found on dailymotion if anyone was even remotely interested ;D

I'm not really into the whole thing, I prefer boxing following a short time in the ring but my friend does MMA and has grown a whole lot more hench within a short space of time. It's physically and mentally challenging and I look forward to watching him compete in the coming months.

Anyone watch MMA?
UFC, Strikeforce, Pride, etc?
This weekends UFC PPV was a bit underwhelming but after the last two stellar main-events, a washed up boxer and Old-Man Couture were always on a hiding to nothing.

Brock Lesner is a fat cunt, GSP is god, I will never consider Fedor the best in the world till he proves it against UFC standard fighters, Frank Mir is fun to watch, and Anderson Silva is great. And whenever I hear Forrest Griffin I think of Forrest Gump.

It really has gone down in my opinion. Gone are the old days of Frank and Ken Shamrock, Tito Ortiz, Oleg Taktarin, Dan Severn, Royce Gracie et al. Not so great now. Even the old K-1 has gone downhill, as Jerome LeBanner isn't the same anymore. None of todays fighters would have stood a chance against those who fought in the first 10 UFC events.

Brock Lesner is a fat cunt Seriously?? C'mon, the guy might act like a tit most of the time but fat is one of the last words I'd use to describe him, he's a feckin powerhouse who runs over most of his opponents due to his freakish strength and speed. Couture against Toney was funny, how he thought he could come into a completely different discipline and compete at that level is beyond me and he just got embarassed.

Fair enough, should have used the words "big ass". It's more that I highly dislike him than that I actually think he's fat.
It also annoys me how much Dana favouritises (I think thats a word) him. What was it, 2 fights (one of which he lost) before he got the chance at the belt? How is that fair.

It was probably all about the selling power of his fights, having him as a belt holder probably brings a lot more attention to the UFC and Dana White aint one to miss out on making money so it's no real suprise that it happened that way even if it was unfair.
He's shown himself more than able to compete at that level so the fact Dana favours him shouldn't take away from the fact he's a legit champion.
