Terrible, even as a 2000s kings fan I have respect for him What will the reaction be like stateside? Can’t think of someone that big dying so young in modern sport. I’m not on twitter and don’t really watch ESPN but I will have to after today. I would say you’re right though. Previously Drazen Petrovic but he was an up and comer by no means a solidified legend of the league like Kobe.

Only one that shocked me in recent history was Gary Speed. Obviously Kobe a global icon though so it transcends his sport.

Its huge news here in the States. Kinda taking the shine off the impeachment. One reporter has also accidentally called the Los Angeles Lakers the LA N word. So that'll get huge attention in about 20 mins

NO NO NO NO NO FUCK NO. I honestly can't believe it. He's the reason I love basketball and I love the Lakers. He's the reason I used to wake up at 4am in the morning when I was a kid. This can't be happening... Honestly, I have no words. Kobe Bryant is no more. That statement reads like out of some parallel universe somewhere. I just saw him on TV courtside at the Laker game. He was shaking Lebron's hand. How can this happen? I can't process this. Kobe was someone that inspired me personally, with his Mamba mentality. I am shocked.

He is not just someone that I've admired and cheered for, but he's someone that truly inspired me to work harder when I felt I should just give up, to dig deeper when something seemed imposible. I've never really been affected when someone famous died before but this one, man, this one hurts like fuck.

Imagine if Cristiano passed away, what would the reaction be around the world? That's exactly what this is like, not just in the USA, but worldwide. Kobe Bryant is arguably one of the top 3 players to ever hold a basketball. It is seismic, especially the nature of his passing. I woke up this morning and saw my friends text me about this and genuinely didn't move for a couple of minutes. Thought it was a lucid dream or just some sick prank.

The last time I was close to this is when the news surfaced about Sir Alex. But this one hit me like a fucking train. No chance to brace myself or prepare myself. Don't know what to do here.

He texted Kobe "How you been". Then you see the timestamp on the photo and you feel your stomach cave in - he texted him after the accident.

Fucking terrible. RIP to all in the crash.
He was a genuine great. In footballing terms it'd probably be the equivalent of Zidane or Ronaldinho or someone I think, a genuine top ten of all time contender. He was supposed to be an elder statesman of the game for the next forty years. And now he's just gone, fuck.
Life... fucking hell.

Nick Nurse coaching the East All-Stars is such an underrated story. Dude lost Kawhi and was tipped to miss the playoffs only to have the third best record in the entire league at the halfway point. Either more Raptors deserve to make the All-Star team or this cat is the coach of the decade. This whole team is an amazing underdog story. Don’t sleep on them come playoff time.

Nurse and the players have a chip on their shoulders because everyone in the American media thought it was all Kawhi, now they’re all saying we’re a dark horse contender for the title. I’d love to see a Lakers vs Raptors final.
