We have technically had 2 Germans on our books as far as i know - Zieler and a guy called Markus Neumayr about 6-7 years ago.
But neither played a first team game, so no, we have never had a German player.
Zieler came the closest by being on the bench once.

Yeap, I got all that info from a google search too. Haha, thought there might be some old heads who had the inside scoop on a foreign national who, in fact, was German! You, know, since that happens so often and all.

Well there were a couple young Americans on our books who went on to play in Germany for a couple years if that counts?

He doesnt strike me as the type to be seduced by the glitz and shit that Barca and Madrid use to woo players.
Just because he has signed a contract doesnt mean we cant sign him - just means we have to pay a fair price. I'm sure if Fergie said he wanted him and Dortmund accepted the offer, then he would come. But if Fergie comes out and admits he wants him, everyone else will be bidding for him.

Yeah, no I completely agree with you, there's a reason he hasn't made any possible targets publicly known. The same reason applies to why he keeps saying we're fine in midfield, I reckon we're biding our time and before long we'll know who exactly it is we've been after. My point is just there's a little trend in terms of Germans at Utd, but trends are there to be broken Granted, whoever it is we're after, is anyone's guess.

Aye, athough its not for the want of being linked with them - Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Subotic, Hummels, Khedira, Ozil, etc.
Id love to know who we have bid for in the past and either been knocked back or unable to agree terms. Theres gotta be a few that the press have no idea about.

"It will be the same this summer, with the club going for the less obvious, emerging rather than established talents, even from the bigger clubs with whom United are preparing to barter."
Raid on Barca's youngsters maybe??

That's a crap article. Why did he go from discussing our transfer dealings to Antonio Valencia? It's like he forgot what point he was making at the start. Also, he hasn't said anything new.

Lol. I appreciate the link, I just thought that it wasn't a well constructed article. Crap may have been a tad harsh.

It is a chop shop article.
I think we will have a quiet summer, the return (hopefully) of Fletcher will be heralded as, as good as a new signing.
With the flotation set back I cant see the Gimps increasing our deficit significantly.

We don't really need a busy summer, last summer was the biggie where we had to replace our keeper. Jones came in to bolster defence, Young our wing options. Welbeck has given us a extra quality striker too. We've maneauvered into a decent position, its not like we need to spread money over any key area's in the squad now, just midfield. Fletchers condition only confirms that, we don't even have any guarantees he will return to us even after months out he's still been told to remain stay away for months longer. Having him back may be just a gamble for both us and his own health, but we'll see.
Last year we had a few stabs at some established talents but none materialised. I think that boat has sailed now and I'd be surprised if any of the old target will be next summer. So I do kind of agree with that article. First port of call needs to be tying down Pogba though.

yeah i think its going to be a quiet transfer window. ideally we would sign an older midfielder (if scholes or giggs call it time) as a short term option before the likes of clevs and pogba are ready to step up. someone like seedorf. im still in favour of trying to sign modric if they dont make champions league spot.
