I'll be honest Ive never even heard of this keeper and he's worth £71m...hmm oook. He's known as an up and comer (maybe I'm wrong), at least he is to the La Liga casuals. Those who watch the league on the regular will be better placed to comment. But that's my point. This lad is barely established, yet they've made him the most expensive keeper in the world. That's just bad negotiating. On the upside, nobody can bat an eye when we ask 200 mil for De Gea, and not a penny less. Do find it crazy that we're concerned about breaking the record for a defender and you've got Chelsea breaking the record for a keeper without batting and eyelid. This is why I'm less concerned about the amount we spend to tie down quality players now. Valuations are getting more and more ridiculous each year. Won't be long before transformers are regularly over the £100m mark.

Unproven is a bit harsh. Unproven in the PL maybe, but he's been starting for Bilbao for about 2 years. De Gea only had 4 more appearances for Atleti when we signed him than Kepa does for Bilbao. You also missed out that they beat City to Jorginho, who was brilliant last year and by all accounts was Pep's only target to improve his first team. Overall they've had a poor window, but it's a lot better than it looked 3 weeks ago and not as bad as you're saying IMO. Mate, we did not buy De Gea for 71 million though. Kepa, for 71 million, is absolutely ridiculous and they've hugely overpaid there's no denying that. The reason why they've done so is because they were absolutely shite in the window. Jorginho is a good deal, but I'm not overly wary of them with him in the squad. I am not sold on him as yet, will hold my hands up if he proves me wrong though. Kovacic is a good signing, but it's only a loan, with no option to buy. In the midst of all this , they've lost their established, near world class level keeper for 35 million. Abysmal, IMO. It's Bilbao. Ya don't paya the release fee, ya don't geta the Kepa.

That was a long time ago though. The market has inflated hugely since then (particularly for goalkeepers who for the most part IMO have been historically undervalued) and if we bought the De Gea of 2011 today I doubt it'd be for less than £50m at the very least.

Matteo Darmian is ready to leave Manchester United this week and has begun making preparations for his return to Serie A, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Italian defender played the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday but still sits behind the injured Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot in the pecking order.
Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan are all interested in bringing him back to Serie A and Manchester United will sell if a club meets their valuation. They signed him from Torino for £13million in 2015 and they will want all of that back.
Ideally, Manchester United would keep him at the club as Valencia and Dalot are not expected to return to full fitness until September.
The former is recovering from a calf problem while the latter, signed this summer from Porto, is on his way back from a knee injury.
However, they understand Darmian is keen to return to his homeland and be a first-team performer. The same report claims he has been staying in a hotel in Manchester city centre since returning from holiday and that his wife remains in Italy.
'Matteo wants to leave,' Mourinho admitted last month. 'If the right offer arrives you have to try to be human and let the player follow his instinct but not at any price.'
With the Premier League transfer window closed, Manchester United would not be able to sign a replacement and may have to turn to Ashley Young should he seal a transfer before this weekend's game against Brighton.
They can then hope to have Valencia back in action in time for their third Premier League tie, a top-six clash against Tottenham on August 27.
Italian clubs have until Friday to get a deal over the line.

If Darmian is that important to Jose, than why not just get the business done now. Do a sign and loan back to the club with us paying his wages until the agreed upon release date. At least both parties get what they want.

www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11473122/diego-godin-rejected-manchester-united-for-personal-reasonsAtletico Madrid defender Diego Godin says he did not use interest from Manchester United to secure an improved contract. Godin says he turned down United for 'personal reasons' - and has not yet signed a new deal with Atletico. Manchester United were interested in adding an experienced defender before the window closed last week and put together an offer for Godin's agent to take to Atletico. But Godin stayed in Madrid and United believe their interest was leveraged into an improved contract for the 32-year-old Uruguay international. However, ahead of Wednesday night's UEFA Super Cup final match against Real Madrid in Tallinn, Godin denied the events were linked. "I have not renewed," Godin said. "I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons, and I am only thinking about the final. "But I have not extended my contract. I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from." Godin joined Atletico in 2010 and has been a mainstay of a side who won La Liga and have twice been Champions League finalists.
