RDR2 was like that for me. I just couldn't get into another game. I felt totally empty at the end of that. I was shocked that a video game could have such an affect on me. The journey with Arthur was definitely a tale of two halves. It still makes me sad thinking about what happened. Rockstar set the bar so high with that game. Own RDR2, got it in a bundle with my Pro. Hardly played it because I got Odyssey shortly afterwards. Syndicate, the one in Victorian London, is great fun.

I've never played AC. Do you have to start at the first or are they stand alone, if so which is best? I need a new game.
You don't - the first game is ok but not great but the second and third games are quite good. I think I have almost all of them but only ever played 1 and 2

I had never played AC before Odyssey. All the lore/backstory passed me by but not knowing anything detailed about it definitely did nothing to decrease the experience. If you have an interest in Greek mythology Odyssey is pretty much perfect. It's just an enjoyable game. Genuinely beautiful - especially if you have a Pro, and with the right difficulty settings it's challenging without being controller breaking. It is console breaking though, as I could barely being myself to play anything else for about a year. If you want to immerse yourself in the full Assassins/Templars storyline you might have to start with an earlier game though. RDR2 was like that for me. I just couldn't get into another game. After the end of that game I couldn't finish the last 2 chapters (without spoiling it)

It really is an amazing game RDR2 - more than worth the time to play

Was hoping they could do an undead nightmare version, but that doesn't work with the story I guess. That game was a lot of fun!

Aye, I missed a word there. You're right about it feeling like a step backwards. The whole thing feels a bit phoned in. I'm finding it a bit easy as well. I always do my first playthrough on standard difficulty, but I've jumped up to hard because at a certain point it almost becomes almost impossible to die - you can just walk into a fort and kill 30+ enemies without breaking a sweat. It doesn't matter if you get spotted while in stealth because you can just kill everyone anyway. The jeopardy has gone. Its also pretty buggy. One of the early mystery events can't be completed, the icon is still there even though I completed the task, and now the characters are speaking a foreign language and can't be interacted with. And one of the raw material barrels has glitched and can't be looted, I've gone back 4 or 5 times to try. I'm also pretty sure some of the fish types you need to catch simply don't exist. It's far from a write off, though. I really like having to hunt for and unlock clues about 'The Order'. That was one of my favourite part of the last games. I hope the current format becomes a permanent fixture. And the semi-puzzle element of breaking into buildings is great, some need some proper working out. Same goes for the cursed symbols and stone circles, some of the later ones are really challenging. The game is still fine, but it's gone from Odyssey being a strong 9 to Valhalla being maybe a 6 or 7. Yeah it's incredibly buggy, Odyssey was seamless. I have to restart Valhalla quite a lot to continue with certain quests because a bug is stopping me from continuing. On it being easy, I think it's because of how quickly you level up. I'm only on the Kent arc at the moment which has a suggested level of 130 but after doing all the other lower levelled regions, I'm already at 180+ so Kent is just ridiculously easy and I'm on hard mode. Fucking hate that they've brought back the catchable items as well, like the Tattoo designs and stuff, don't think they've had them since Black Flag and they're just infuriating if you're OCD and want to complete every section to 100%. I'd give it a 7. It's fun for the most, I like the setting and time period even if it's not as beautiful as Odyssey and the narrative is always pretty decent in AC games, this is no different. You're a Viking, so that makes it instantly cool and adds another point in it's favour. I think you're right about the levelling. They haven't got it right this game. In Odyssey, the enemies levelled up with you. You get spotted in a fort, even late in the game when you're high level with good gear, you would still get killed easily if you weren't careful. Even pigs could fuck you up. I'm now worried about Kent... I haven't even started it yet, and I'm already level ~240...

I've never played AC. Do you have to start at the first or are they stand alone, if so which is best? I need a new game. All of them are playable as stand alone games. The series is hit and miss. I would definitely recommend Odyssey and Black Flag, they are two of my favourite games. Origins and Syndicate are both really good as well. AC:1 is a bit boring and monotonous, AC:2 is decent for the Assassins Tomb's alone, AC:3 is pretty bad and not worth your time. All the rest are varying degrees of okay to meh.

They could just make it a story like in RDR1

Has anyone played Assassins Creed Valhalla? Yeah that's what me and Monty have been speaking about on the last few pages. Decent fun but no comparison to the previous one.

Odyssey is on offer as a bundle for £22. Should be £92! The Ezio collection is also on offer for £12.
