17/01/2018 15:11, Report by Adam Higgins DE GEA NAMED IN FIFA TEAM OF THE YEAR FOR 2017 In recognition of his phenomenal performances for Manchester United and Spain, David De Gea has been named in the inaugural EA SPORTS FIFA Team of the Year.
The 27-year-old was among 55 players who were originally shortlisted for inclusion by EA SPORTS based on their real-life performances throughout 2017. The starting XI was then voted for by a select list of athletes, media and members of the EA SPORTS FIFA community, who were all asked to create a team that consisted of a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards. These were later shared on Twitter using the hashtag #TOTYVote. De Gea's inclusion in the EA SPORTS FIFA Team of the Year has arrived after he was recently included on the 30-man shortlist for the 2017 Ballon D'Or, which was won by United legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Congratulations to David! Check out the team in full: David De Gea (Manchester United); Marcelo (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Leonardo Bonucci (AC Milan), Dani Alves (Paris Saint-Germain); N'Golo Kante (Chelsea), Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City); Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Lionel Messi (Barcelona). RACE FOR THE GOLDEN GLOVE
De Gea's shut-out in Monday's 3-0 win over Stoke City means he has now kept 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season – which is more than any other keeper. David is currently one ahead of Chelsea stopper Thibault Courtois and has two clean sheets more than Manchester City's Ederson, while Hugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur has 10 to his name. Our no.1 has never won the Golden Glove award and was most recently pipped to the prize by Courtois last season, although he has an excellent chance this campaign with the help of our mean defense. A NEW CONTRACT IN THE WORKS
Jose Mourinho hopes the club will soon agree a new long-term contract for De Gea, who is closing in on 300 appearances for the club following his 2011 transfer from Atletico Madrid. In the short term, however, the manager revealed at the weekend that United will trigger a clause in the current deal that will extend the goalkeeper's stay for at least another 12 months. "A goalkeeper like he is, at a club that wants to be better and better and better – we are not going to let that option go away," Mourinho told reporters. "We are going to try. I just say what is obvious and any one of you would say the same: David is to keep." www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2018/Jan/Manchester-United-goalkeeper-David-De-Gea-named-in-EA-SPORTS-FIFA-Team-of-the-Year-for-2017.aspx

Manchester United have begun preliminary talks with David de Gea over a new long-term contract for the Spain goalkeeper. De Gea is out of contract at the end of next season although there is an option to extend that deal by a further 12 months. Jose Mourinho, the United manager, said last week that the option would be triggered if necessary but that the club would be seeking to secure De Gea’s long-term future in the meantime. It is understood that talks are at a very early stage, with contact made between United and De Gea’s representatives about a fortnight ago. The option in De Gea’s existing £200,000-a-week deal buys United some time and protection, especially if Real Madrid renew their long-standing interest in the Spaniard. Real tried and failed to sign De Gea in 2015, when a £29 million bid that involved Keylor Navas moving to Old Trafford collapsed in the final hours of the transfer window amid much acrimony. De Gea subsequently signed a new four-year contract with United, that included the option of an extra year, but Real have maintained their interest since. Mourinho was prepared to let De Gea go last summer only for Real to pull back from a deal as they focused their efforts on trying to fund a move for France striker Kylian Mbappe, who subsequently joined Paris St-Germain. The United manager has no intention of letting De Gea leave now and spelt out his desire to keep the goalkeeper last Friday. “It’s obvious that we’re not going to let the option [in De Gea’s contract] disappear,” said Mourinho. “A goalkeeper like he is, and obviously a club that wants to be better and better and better, we are not going to let that year option go away. “But obviously we are going to try to give him a contract that keeps him here for much longer than that option that, of course, we are going to execute. “I don’t discuss numbers and contracts. I just say what is obvious. Anyone of you would say the same – David is to keep.” De Gea is represented by Jorge Mendes, who is also Mourinho’s agent, and Mendes was in Manchester on Wednesday as he went through the final details of the United manager’s new contract with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. It is also possible there could be further talks over De Gea. Mourinho’s new deal is expected to tie him to Old Trafford until June 2021, with the option of another 12 months, and there remains an outside chance of United making an announcement this week. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/17/manchester-united-begin-talks-david-de-gea-new-long-term-contract/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Looks like Kepa Arrizabalaga isn't going to Real after all. New contract at Athletic is imminent. I thought his transfer to Real was already confirmed. I hope to fuck that Dave's contract talks are well under way.

well said jose... Jose Mourinho: David de Gea will not leave Manchester United for Real Madrid Jose Mourinho has no intention of allowing David De Gea to leave as Manchester United are trying to attract the best players, not lose them. The Portuguese has bolstered his squad with a handful of stars each summer since succeeding Louis van Gaal and last month delved into the January window for the first time to bring in Alexis Sanchez. The only exits to date have been out-of-favour players but Real Madrid continue to be linked with a move for outstanding shot-stopper De Gea, who was on the brink of a switch to the Bernabeu in 2015. Zinedine Zidane's men could instead move this summer for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois - a man who this week confessed his "heart is in Madrid" - but Mourinho is not interested in such talk as he looks to keep building his team. "I don't speak about Courtois," he said of a player he managed at Chelsea. "Do you think a club that is trying to attract the best players is a club that is open to sell their best players? Makes no sense. "If you want to go to that level, we have to attract the best players like we did with Alexis, (Nemanja) Matic, (Paul) Pogba and so on, and don't let our best players go." www.thenational.ae/sport/football/jose-mourinho-david-de-gea-will-not-leave-manchester-united-for-real-madrid-1.703458

Jose Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, has told Real Madrid they will be wasting their time trying to sign David de Gea. The Manchester United goalkeeper came close to joining Real Madrid in 2015 only for the deal, which would have seen Keylor Navas move to Old Trafford in return, to collapse on transfer deadline day. Mourinho was prepared to let De Gea leave for Real last summer but the European champions backed away from a deal as they tried instead to finance a move for France striker Kylian Mbappé, who ended up joining Paris St-Germain on an initial loan from Monaco with a view to a permanent £165 million transfer. De Gea is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of next season but United, who have an option in his contract to extend by a further 12 months to June 2020, want to tie the 27-year-old to a new long-term deal. And Mourinho expects De Gea – who has been outstanding again this season and established himself as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world– to remain at United and told Real they should train their sights elsewhere. "I see him [De Gea] staying here," Mourinho told Spanish TV station La Sexta. "I do not know Real Madrid's intentions but, if I were them, I would think of another player." www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/03/13/david-de-gea-staying-man-utd-real-madrid-would-think-another/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
