Well? If we were interested in RVP and fergie was there (vacation, business, whatever) and he was chatting to any of the Arsenal top-brass, im sure he would have enquired.
Journos wont know either way - but why let that get in the way of a story?

Fergie may not be that arsed about him? May not want to spend a chunk of the budget on a striker we really dont need at the mo? Who knows. Same as every transfer story, the only ones that know are the clubs involved.
And a couple journos that Fergie trusts - but they would be sworn to secrecy till a certain point in the deal.
Journos have to fill space every day - their editors and that dont care whether the rumour is real or BS, as long as it sells papers and fills space.

Neither this thread, or the Lucas thread were giddy. They were just general discussions, based on paper talk, on whether the players would be suitable for us, how we would accomodate them, etc.
No one went "OMFG WE ARE GOING TO SIGN THEM!" - it was more "Oh look, paper X has linked us to Lucas. Wouldnt mind us signing him, he looks an excellent prospect"
Alot of the other threads are the same.

RVP would be wasted at United, we don't have technically efficient enough midfielders to give him the service he needs. Look at Hernandez, he makes runs into space all the time and no-one attempts the ball that'd put him away. Sure, he's offside alot, but just noticed that all too often he's left wondering where the ball was when he's looking back.
Plus, he's injury prone and we have enough strikers. Saw this on twitter and it's totally relevant. Buying RVP would be like getting brand new alloys for your car, along with a shiny new body kit, but neglecting to fix the engine.
