That 2nd one would be awesome. We sign a very good left back AND get rid of Anderson? Talk about a win-win. Caught Offside, so enough said there.

Why did people want him anyway. Sure, good player and excellent prospect, but we have Vidic, Rio, Jones, Smalling and Evans. We don't need centre backs. Not yet anyway.

Rio is at the end of the line, Vidic is 30, Jones is being used as everything but a CB half the time. Granted we are blessed with many defenders but a world class defender could never hurt.
Hummels is 23. It was just a fantasy lads, no need to get carried away, I think he's a fantastic player and, as was evident this year, the best defence wins the league.

so what if vida is 30? that is relatively young for a center half.
longer term it's a matter of time before smalling and jones are first choice at center half, we'll also have Evans. we don't need to be buying any center halves just yet

Agree jim, I'm just a fan of Hummels, that's all.
Yeah, for that to happen we'll have to get an adequate box to box midfielder at some point and keep Jones at CB, so too Smalling, with a few cameos at RB for the latter if we don't bring anyone in.

Hummels is a top player, and you can never have enough good players.
As for Vidic, who knows what he'll be like post injury.

Hummels is a top player, and you can never have enough good players. anymore than 3 top center halves competing for 2 places is unsustainable. the 4th can be a good center half and the 5th a prospect but you can't have 4 'top' center halves. before anyone says we have 5 - smalling and jones will be top center halves, aren't quite there yet. if there are issues with vida on his return then yeah perhaps we should look again but i'd be inclined to put my faith in smalling and jones.

Hummels is certainly one to keep an eye on as Vidic ages, hopefully the timing will suit us when its time to act on it.
I really dont like Jones at CB, we should get a good look at him there in the Euros, hopefully he proves me wrong as it would be great for him to have a good run there.
