my take on Giggs and later Scholes playing against Norwich is that norwich were unbeaten in 5, were working as a unit and had beaten arsenal and fergie expected to out-know-how them by using the likes of Giggs, rather than opting for hot and cold anderson or workhorse cleverley.
i get blasted on for calling cleverley a workhorse but
1. it's not a bad thing or a criticism, every team needs energetic, mobile players who graft. his short passing game is good and he keeps the ball well and that's a plus.
and 2. i'm still waiting to see if he's got that bit of guile, a regular assist or goal in him.

Can you (or anyone), name a central midfielder in our squad who regularly provides this?

Clevs has been brilliant for us so far this season. It frustrates me when he is not playing and Scholes/Giggs are.
He always offers an option when we have possession and plays a quick, fluid passing game, we seem to play our best stuff when Clevs has been playing.
But as others have mentioned he just needs to add a regular goal to his game.

In the name of all things holy let this happen, for 14 million it'd be a gamble SO worth taking.

"If Strootman's game was to be compared to any recent Manchester United midfielder then it should probably be Michael Carrick, albeit in his earlier and more adventurous years before Alex Ferguson moulded him more into the anchor role. That's not a criticism of either player and Strootman has progressed greatly this year with PSV and he and his agent have spoken about being keen on a move."

I wouldn't compare Strootman to Carrick young or old, Carrick has never been particularly mobile and yet that is one of the biggest strengths of Strootman when i've seen him. Strootman strikes me as a classic box-to-box midfielder.

Similar situation to the Kagz transfer, seems to tick the boxes - young, versatile, leader, left-footed not too expensive, Dutch and they have apparently already got a replacement lined up.

Alright, that all reads very well. I'm not getting my hopes up, but articles like this should at least put paid to the whinging moaners who want a full break-down of how many times people have actually seen our potential transfer targets play.

Sounds like Keano with his shooting boots on.Hopefully he has his iron will and manic hatred of defeat. The thought of a proper midfielder of quality to play alongside Ando/Cleverley has only annoyed me further on our current arrangements.
