For me it has nothing to do with his aggression, he is just not good enough for United. I don't know what he actually does in midfield, he certainly doesn't retain possession. The only position he would be effective is behind the striker and we are already well covered there. you dont know what he does? He bully the midfield.

He also played defensive midfieler before being moved up. He'd be better than anderson an injured fletcher giggs. Probably an effective partner for carrick. Hes probably not everyones dream but hes better thsn almost everything we have so I dont see the issue

As someone said - do not want. I mean he's ok but we could/should get better .... i think that might of been me I'm thinking that I agree. He's possibly "better than what we have" but "not good enough to take us where we need to go." I remember people saying we should get the likes of Charlie Adam, Clint Dempsey, Scott Parker, the entire Newcastle midfield etc because they could "do a job." I know we're all desperate for an actual midfielder who doesn't play in the hole, but there are far better options out there. Fellani would be like settling for the chubby yet kinda cute girl while all the fit ones are in the washroom.

Is Fellaini really better than what we have though?
I certainly don't think so.

Is Fellaini really better than what we have though? I certainly don't think so. That argument only works when we actually have people in the same position.

Central midfield?
Carrick Cleverley Anderson Powell *Sigh* Giggs Jones Petrucci (I'm still hopeful he'll get a chance.)
Is Fellaini better than those? Different, definitely. But overall good enough for the differences to make him better than what we have? I certainly don't think so. As I've already said elsewhere, if we're finally going to improve our midfield, we should actually improve it, not just buy because we're desperate for investment there.

Who else would you have then? (Barring Gudogan, who I don't think will leave Dortmund) I've heard Matic's and Strootman's names bandied about but there are arguments to be made that they're not better than Fellaini. Anyone else?

Matic is better than Fellaini. Watch him play, there is so much more to his game. Have only seen Strootman in highlights/2 games.
But Gundögen is the one.

I'm with Bestie, seen Matic quite a bit and he's a far superior player to Fellaini if you ask me.

I watched Matic in the Europa final as well. He did impress. What makes me slightly skeptical is the fact that he is a Chelsea reject and has no premiership experience.

Just after Matic signed for Chelsea he was injured playing at the U21 championships in '09, so that kind of threw a spanner in the works. Made a couple of apps but couldn't establish himself, so the injury wasn't the ideal start. That wouldn't put me off him.

Fair enough. That's plausible.

Fellaini strikes me as a "ashley young" type of player - very good in an average team and did well against us. But he ain't exactly a world beater and there are better solutions out there, especially for the money mentioned. In other words - I don't think he would improve our chances in Europe...
