Yeah it's free to play online unlike the xbox, was £4.99 a month when I was last on it (quite some time ago) not a massive cost but one I could do without! Plus the added bonus of a Blu-Ray player also swayed it for me.
I honestly don't see any difference in gaming experience between the two Playstation for me edges it a little in terms of graphics, I'm sure others will disagree with me there but the price also is a big point for me. I don't want to have to pay extra to play online every month!!

Depends on where you wanna buy it I guess, £149.99 for a playstation 3 on eBay, my mates just bought his from there and its perfect. XBox probably a tad cheaper.

Bestie.
Listen and listen carefully.
Buy a PS3. Don't even think twice about it, just buy the PS3.

Wasn't there a rumour that PS4 was coming out? There was this huge rumour circulating either end of last year or beginning of this year on the correlation that Sony comes out with a new PS every 6 years (and it's time for that 6 year cycle). I highlight the word "rumour". But if PS4 is coming out, buying a PS3 then will be a lot cheaper

From the demo it looks like free kicks and crossing are much improved. Drove me mad last year when Tony V would beat his man and under no pressure put the cross into row F. Penos still shite though

I highlight the word "rumour". But if PS4 is coming out, buying a PS3 then will be a lot cheaper Both the next gen Playstation and Xbox will be out within 18 month, IMHO. there have been progressively increasing 'leaks' on both over the past 6-9 months. but it is neither here nor there if one comes out soon, if you ask me. Bestie, if you want one, i'd say get the PS3, its a superior piece of equipment IMO. more powerful, and Sony seems to really plan ahead when designing these machines. they did so with the original PS and DVD's, and they did that again with the PS3 and Blu Ray's, 1080p resolution, bluetooth, etc. i'd also say buy one now because, even though the new system will be out within the next 1 1/2 - 2 years, that doesn't mean that the game developers will be investing much into making games for those platforms. the current platforms are only now being fully utilised, and that's why u see games of the likes of FIFA 12 & 13, Uncharted 3, Batman: Arkam City, The last of Us, Assassins Creed etc. are just so good. Also, and probably most importantly, those new systems will be VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! early adopters always pay through the nose for the tech, thus there will still be a strong community using these current models for about 2 years into the life cycle of these new machines. so in other words u have about 3-4 years of joy out of ur current machine (if your buy one now) before the newer models really take over. not a bad return when u consider the caliber/quality of games that will be coming out during that time. i didn't buy mine until 2 years into the PS3's cycle, and i don't think i missed much, as those games that were released at launch just weren't that good by the time i jumped in, save for one or two titles. (i'm talking about you Uncharted!)

Ithankyou!
Edit: for anyone considering purchasing a PS3, i strongly suggest you but the Uncharted franchise, and i mean all 3 of them. (do you get the impression that i like those games?)
Play them in order too, it gives you a good impression as to how far the system has developed over its life cycle, and all three are really good games. plus the fist two should be about 15 - 20 quid each, which is a steal.

if you want that blu-ray player and only really want a game of fifa now and then then buy a ps3. technically speaking the lads are right, it is a more powerful bit of kit.
if you have a couple of mates or so who play online and want to get together with them and play then buy an xbox. it's the more sociable of the two. (and a better gaming experience IMO)
also appwise netflix, youtube, sky player, lovefilm etc i'm not sure ps3 competes with xbox on that front.
