Seen a million FB reposts on this. Didn't find it funny and I am a bit mystified as to why it's so huge in East and SE-Asia (I understand it's trying to be silly... but okay)
...mainly because I'm an old sod, belong to the older generation and can't get with the times. Many others do though.

Gangnam is an area of Seoul in South Korea, its well-known for its high concentration of wealthy inhabitants and said people having a lot of bling, swagger and being generally ostentatious and smarmy. This song is taking the piss out of them I believe. I found pretty funny in places although it now seems to have become a new "fad" over here, along with awful phrases like "Swag" (to denote coolness) and "YOLO".

I actually quite like it, it's catchy and the video is nuts, just a bit of fun really. Of course it'll be played and parodied to death until everyone is sick of it but so far I can still crack a smile at it.

Don't be so hard on yourself Alantas, i'm still pretty young and i don't get it either. (but then i didn't get the boy bands, Spice girls, Beiber... etc etc.  ) just another notch on the 'look at me, i'm a nobody and a STAR' culture that pervades society today. i, for one, deliberately abstain from giving any attention to such ridiculous stuff. the more 'hits' it gets on facebook, youtube and the like, the more popular it is perceived to be. thus i just pass on by, and ignore that stuff. (you can throw Kim-How'd u like my sex tape-Kardashian, Paris-My sex tape was hotter-Hylton, and any other talent-less rich nobody in with that lot too) |
