Hey guys wonder if I could pick some brains. At the moment I'm a little trouble clearing a few outgoings and wondered if anyone knows or has advice of how to go about doing it, Ive looked at consolidation and at the moment it seems my best bet but not sure who to go to and who to trust. (one company contacted me and have said that my bank could freeze my account when they find out so their trying to get me change to one of their accounts. This i find a little strange so Ive kept them on hold with it at the moment in the hope I can find an easier solution. Also mainly because I don't want certain people finding out about it and Ive got debits going to them each month.)
Basically I was an idiot with money and now I'm suffering so my own fault basically and a bit embarrassed about it to be honest to talk to friends n family about it (also its my problem and not theirs so unfair to even go there). Its not a huge debt but its enough to pull my finger out of my arse and get it sorted.
Ive got several debts instead of one single one otherwise it wouldn't be a problem clearing it. Any advice would be much appreciated as its starting to get to a bit.
Cheers, Paul.

I think your first stop should be the Citizens Advice Bureau, they're good with offering advice on debt management and consolidation. Worth having a look at this site too.. www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/There's a lot of debt management companies out there who are no better than scummy cowboy builders or loan sharks.

You tried looking at MoneySavingExpert too? They do lots of stuff about debt and money management and will also have recommended consolidation companies to go with.
I feel your pain though, I took out a £5000 loan when I was 19 because my dick of a GF at the time wanted to go to NYC and said she'd pay half of it off with me. Suffice to say that never happened and it took me a long ass time to pay back. Luckily I had friends at the time who when it got really bad lent me the money to settle early and I could repay them interest free.
Just one thing that may help, you tried doing the PPI claim back? I got almost £1500 back from the bank in charges and interest etc. Worth a shot if you're desperate.

Citizens advice is pretty good Paul, though they can be a bit timid at times. It's a good place to start though.

Budgeting. That was the way I went about it.
If you drink, limit yourself to a tenner a week. Do you really need that new blu-ray? The little things soon add up, and you'll find yourself paying it off pretty quickly. But I'm a boring bastard, and not averse to pikeying movies and music...

Tatty is right. I have several family birthdays and rent all around Christmas and it's a killer. Couple of years ago I started throwing a tenner a week into a pot just for that and it makes a huge difference by the time it arrives.

Budgeting is a good shout. But you MUST be strict with yourself.
Self-discipline is the key.
If you set a limit for something, stick to it like your life depends on it.

My problem is ive always been shite with money spending it because I know its there. Problem is when you find out its available then your tempted, my problem was the temptation took over and dipped into an overdraft aswell as 1 or 2 credit cards (not huge limits but enough). Boys doing stuff and didn't wanna miss out. Did have a period of time where I was gambling a lot although thats all sorted now and dont do it anymore other than the odd footie bet. Sorted myself out with several things like that just time to get out of it now. Debt is just under 5k so its not the end of the world but its not something to ignore either. I was one of the idiots to go towards the payday loans (which I strongly advise people to fucking avoid). Used them and found my working hours were being altered afterwards so obviously suffering there. Some people learn the hard way Im now one of them. They say you learn from your mistakes well this will defo be one to learn from. Cheers for all the advice anyways lads will all be taken in .

Pay only the minimun on all debts except for the smallest. On the smallest pay that off first then attack the next smallest. If possible switch to a credit card offer that offers 0 percent interest for a year. Watch out for big transfer fees.Find areas to cut down on spending [fancy cell phones, eating out }. Stick those twenties away to start an emergency fund for auto repair etc. good luck DEBT SUCKS!
