with Celtic still in the CL, i cant see this happening......... in January. i would take him tho, looks a good prospect. (but should it happen, EVERYBODY should be prepared to lose him once in a while around this time of the year. he will be playing in a few AFCON's during his career i think.) Aren't they switching the AFCON to summer after this one, that's why there were two in a row? Nah, i think they did it to make sure that it didn't take place on a World cup year. now it is held on an 'Odd' year, as opposed to and Even numbered year. it will always be held in this time of year though. the summers are too hot in Africa.

Zaha & Wanyama could be one of the January windows to remember if the latter is also a goer. Aye, agreed. A central midfielder? Oh gosh. *swoons*

Aahhhhhhh. I get it. Always thought it was a bit dozy to move it to summers 'off' that don't have World Cups or Euro's when the whole point was too hot summer. That makes more sense.

Depends where in Africa. I mean the World Cup in South Africa didn't have huge problems with heat.
Plus, wouldn't the African players be used to the heat. Being African and all?

Yeh a rather large continent, I would assume a fair amount stays hot a rather large chunk of the time. the lower countries being in southern hemisphere means the seasons are the opposite to ours, the World Cup was actually held in winter in SA. You just have to get far enough from the equator to notice.

Nice, RoM has now moved on to climate discussions.
SA is pretty mild, mild in comparison to central Africa but unbearable at times in summer according to some of my mates who live in the UK. Up near the equator it can get pretty toasty, though I'm sure Australia can top whatever temperature, anywhere, ever.

But even if the players are from Africa, plying your trade elsewhere in the world would mean you will have to re-adapt to the weather conditions back home too, no? But of course, I get the idea that you're more well-prepared and can re-adapt back to the climate quicker than your average Westerner or Easterner. Anyway, who cares. We'll be witnessing the 2022 WC in the middle of the desert.

Climates ftw ;D Death Valley in California has the highest recorded temp though, a full 10 degrees higher than what Sydney had last week. Not sure what the peak temp was from other areas in Australia though. Pretty sure Ethiopia has the highest average temperatures too.

Highest here in Melb was 47, couple of years back.
Pretty sure I read that the highest ever recorded temp on Earth was in Libya, about mid 50's, and that Death Valley has the highest average in the world.
Gets bloody hot here in summer but believe me it can get cold in winter, and that's coming from a northern Englishmen!
Anyway, on (slightly) topic. The AFCON in summer just to keep European clubs happy? Fuck no, retarded idea. Being African doesn't mean they are used to running around for 90 minutes in 40+degree heat. You don't want to lose players in the middle of the season every couple of years? Don't buy African players then. You buy them? Don't whinge about them going off to play for their country.

Agree with you Daz, European clubs need to take what they get when they buy players. After all, these players have just as much affiliation to their country as European countries to theirs.

If you get what I mean? The players aren't wanting to miss out on the club season, but are also loyal to representing their countries. Also to bring the AFCON into line with the WC and Euro's.
