Anymore than £10million... then I would wait and let the scouts do the assessments. Scouts have already assessed him pre-xmas. Favourable report came back but not favourable for United to make a bid. Does that mean... the scouts liked him, but Fergie thought he wasn't the type we needed?

Not for the price Celtic wanted compared to the other players the scouts have been watching apparantly.
If he forces the situation in the summer and says he only wants to join us, things maybe different but word is that he will be leaving Celtic this summer but it wont be to us.

Cheers SET.

Quite like the look of him but would he get a game ahead of who we currently have in midfield?

Question is SET, is there a realistic chance we'll bring in any midfielder? That's the most frustrating part for many of us, we supposedly pass on players that aren't good enough whilst persisting with borderline-retired/injury prone players in the center of the park. It's working at present, just sooner or later we'll surely have to bring in a midfielder of some sorts. I've cooled on Wanyama, I reckon Strootman's a possible goer still.

To be honest I wasn't overly impressed by him last night. He broke up play occasionally and is a big strong lad, but I thought he got caught dallying at times and play passed him by too much. Still, he's 21 and it's only one game so there is certainly potential there, for £10m I think he'd be worth a punt, would prefer Strootman though if it was between the two.

Thought he did well in difficult circumstances last night. Celtic lacked any creativity and so kept giving the ball away when forcing things and i think this is why he got caught at times. He's the kind to keep it neat and tidy, to give it to the more creative player to unlock a defence. Celtic don't have that at the highest level. He's head and shoulders their best player and more than held his own against, in my opinion the 2nd best midfield in Europe. He used his physicality really well and has a real engine.
Is he a Utd midfielder? Traditionally we don't play an out and out holding player but lets be honest, we don't really know what we play there anymore due to bad luck with injuries, (Fletch, Hargreaves), non-fulfilling of potential (Anderson) and a reliance on veterans. Since the midfiled was shreadded at Wembley in 2011 we've added Cleverley, an addition I'm personally delighted with, and nothing much else (bar experimenting with Jones to some success) as Kagawa isn't really a central midfielder. Ask yourself the question- if we beat Real over two legs, how confident would you be that Barca wouldn't over-run us again? I think we'd do better, but we still wouldn't match them. Carrick has been excellent this season but he just can't seem to play against that midfield. They just seem to have his number. No disgrace in that but as he is such an important player for us that is a huge problem going into a match against them. So we're still a way off.
Be it Wanayama, Strootman or whatever, we still need something if we are to beat Barca.

Thought he was pretty solid 2bh, I get what people are saying when they mention about a midfield enforcer. Hes quick, strong, has a lot of energy and he can belt a ball sweetly, what more could you want in a central midfielder?

And don't forget Carrick is soon to be 31.

Really rated this lad against Juve. For 60 minutes, he ran the midfield practically by himself.
In Juve, you're talking about an Italian team capable of passing around most sides. Wanyama broke up everything, he did very well.
Strootman is labelled as more of a passer than a tough tackler. If people want to replace Carrick with like for like, thats fine. But how long have we been saying that we need a tough tackling centre mid for?
