Yeah, he is Slee. I'm thinking if this is a goer we'll get him in the summer, he only has a year left on his contract then (runs out in 2014), so shouldn't be too expensive. www.thenational.ae/sport/football/kenyas-victor-wanyama-has-a-taste-for-victory-with-celtic#page1Great interview with him a few months ago, seems very grounded. The song the Celtic fans for him is pretty funny: The Celtic fans, some of the younger ones who have recorded: "Give me goals, Wanyama, in the Champions League" to the tune of Eddy Grant's "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" will agree. "There's a player we call big Victor," goes the song, "he runs the midfield and the Celtic defence. But the best thing about our Victor is, his goalscoring is becoming immense."

Transfer has been ruled out according to Andy Mitten.
Scout report on him was favourable but not enough to make a bid either now or in the summer.

Great.
Let's spend on another striker then, anything but an actual midfielder it seems.
Mega-sigh.

Struth! Stroots it is then.
EDIT: In fairness, the Gaffer knows about him, we've had a look at him, and apparently Sir Alex/Martin doesn't think he is good enough. This is one of those times you can't complain that we haven't at least considered a particular player for a particular position.

Strootman it is then But I must say I warmed up to the idea of Wanyama in our midfield. He would excite me more than zaha to be honest....

Strootman ain't likely either - unless he changes his agent.
The minute he changes to Mendes get the bets on him coming

Any midfielder with the qualities we're missing would excite me more tbh :/ And Fergie was only at Celtic Park as a guest, for that funeral, so people saying he was there scouting Wanyama are having a laugh, he was probably playing medium-difficulty Sudoku throughout. We have, however, apparently scouted him many times during the season so we've likely had a good look. Can't wait for Wanyama and Strootman to be strutting their stuff for other teams, bossing midfields across Europe, along with he whom we do not speak of.

if the club doesn't rate him enough to go in with a bid then why be disappointed he's not coming?

Not so much him, just generally frustrated at us not having invested in midfielders in almost 6 years. That, in addition to the fact we're playing our old guard in there and not blooding in the next generation that'll need to fill the void when they're not there anymore in the event Ando finally looses his battle with injury-proneness - he's only played more than 20 league games for us once - his very first season. The season before we bought him he played 15 league games for Porto, starting only 9 times. And we went ahead and paid 27 million for him? And yet we love ourselves a winger or two and happily take gambles on unproven Portuguese players who may or may not have been homeless. Slight knee-jerk reaction, granted, but I'm still at work, will be for a while still and It's really hot. I'm excited to see Powell break into the first team within the next 3 years though, what a prospect. www.supersport.com/football/kenya....g_put_at_CelticSeems at least untill the summer he'll stay at Celtic, after which he'll move (not to United).

Because sometimes the club get it catastrophically wrong. catastrophic is a bit extreme. also you have to say usually players we miss out on aren't players we've underrated or overlooked but players we just couldn't get for whatever reason. point in this case is i don't understand the disappointment until we are proved wrong, and even if we are wrong we might have someone else in by the time wanyama is doing the business for a big club outside of scotland who's better than him.

Not saying we're the only club to have missed out on a player, but it's perfectly valid to be disappointed when United have apparently been interested in a player you feel could be an asset but we eventually don't go on to sign them.

Well? Its life. We haven't signed a midfielder for years. Have you been doing this all this time?
The problem is you do it so often - pogba, giggs, etc - it comes across as toys out the pram, spoilt bratted-ness.
We can't sign every player. We get it right a hell of a lot more often than we get it wrong.
If you think you can do better - or that they are THAT wrong, write to the club and ask for a job.
We have looked at the player plenty of times and a favourable report was given about him - just not enough to convince the club to cough up the cash. Besides, he's no good coming in now - we need him in Europe.
Either the club have someone else lined up or they are waiting for the summer to see what's what with clubs/players. Or we could be in for another shit summer.
EDIT:
We have just spent money on a winger we don't get to use till the summer. Unless our main targets get bid on we won't rush into something - plus there aint much time left either
