So, it's pretty self explanatory as the majority of us will agree he'd be a top, top signing. We need a world class CB to replace Rio and, eventually, Vidic.
I'd almost go as far as saying Hummels and a well rounded midfielder would see us challenging on all fronts again - we'd actually be able to breeze through our annual defensive meltdown.

MANCHESTER UNITED are looking to bolster their defence with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in the January transfer window.
Sir Alex Ferguson sent his chief scout to watch the defender in action during Germany's goalless draw with Holland during the international break.
And reports from Spain and Germany claim the 23-year-old is close to a move after expressing a desire to play in a different country.
Hummels said: “One day I will say that I am keen on a transfer.
“To play football in a new country would be flattering. I already had offers and one enquiry from these offers was really one of interest for me.”
The 23-year-old is one of Europe's most sought after centre backs after helping his side win consecutive Bundesliga titles.
It wouldn't be the first time Ferguson has swooped for one of Dortmund's biggest stars.
In the summer the Red Devils signed midfielder Shinji Kagawa from the German side for a fee that could rise to £17m.
--------
I might also add that the scout might have been checking out either Bender or Strootman, which we've also been linked with. But Fergie's history with Germans make it likely he was checking the Dutch player and/or Hummels.
I'm sure rumors will intensify in Jan, maybe even more-so towards the end of the season but a combination of Hummels & Wanyama/ De Rossi / Strootman would leave me purring and the rest of the league, quite simply, outclassed.
