Alexis was great for me on the main FM19. I sold him after 3 years for like £70m to Real despite him being nearly 33. That was partly because he'd been excellent for me, and partly because Real were desperate for a forward in the game.

Oh sanchez would be great, no doubt about that. What I usually try to do with my United teams is, I try to keep the squad and transfers as "realistic" as possible while also addressing key areas. So I rarely do any crazy transfers and always look to have more or less the same squad as in real life. However I wanted to get a centre back and right winger in but it didn't really work as intended. Only managed to offload rojo and darmian while fellaini and alexis are still here. Had a fee agreed for koulibaly but the player himself didn't want to move. Same for sancho. Spurs went a bit crazy for the Toby deal. They wanted 160mil initially, got the price down to 98mil but decided against it, way too much. Couldn't get skriniar. Last two days of the transfer window I got a bit nervous with no new players but sold two defenders.
I managed to get sessegnon for 35mil as a cover for Shaw and the left side. Couldn't get an experienced defender in, but on the last day I bought milenkovic from fiorentina for 16mil. Great potential and only 21. Tried to offload Jones on the last day but no one was interested.
Started pre season with a new tactic but couldn't figure it out well enough and had some bad results in the friendlies. Just before the season started ahead of the last friendly I switched back to my old 4231 ultra offensive setup that I always use for united in football manager. Won the last friendly comfortably and started the season with a 3:0 at home to Chelsea. Only 4 games into the season right now but won the first 3 and played out a 1:1 at goodison Park. 1st in the table on goal difference ahead of Liverpool and 1 point behind is city.
And yes, I have to say the touch version was worth the money. Thought that I might miss the press conferences and conversations but turned out that its really good like that. You can focus on elemental things and move forward quite quickly.

about to finish my first season with united in FM touch and its been an incredibly good one so far.
managed to get sancho in the January window who helped me massively. scored and assisted about 10 each so far. Liverpool were leading from match day 2 to 30 with me and City never more than 5 behind. They slipped and I won the league on the last day on goal difference ahead of city. Had the same amount of wins and losses, same points and same number of goals conceded but I scored 2 more than City through a 4:0 at home to Southampton in the last game. However I lost the carabao final to Liverpool in injury time. I still have fa Cup and champions league final to play. Through a shit ton of luck and a ridiculous home record I made it to all the finals. Away from home I'm still struggling with tactics, but no one gets close to me at old Trafford. Champions league final is against City who came from behind to knock out Liverpool in the semis while I had to deal with atletico.
Fa Cup final is against... Liverpool. Its crazy, all season was Liverpool or City in all competitions. Rashford scored 20 league goals. Pogba player of the season in the league who almost went to barca but I managed to make him sign a new contract. Sancho young player of the season despite only playing for 5 months. Poch sacked in March while sitting in 5th but exiting all Cup competitions early.

And what is the leagues you can play on it, always put me of a bit because it does my head in when certain teams don't have real players in their squad

i was just wondering, is there any way to update an older FM version with the current squads? i know you can do it all manually but you can imagine how painful that process is. any other possibilities?

Try sortitoutsi.net - they do a rolling update all year.
The updates are usually editor data files that you need to choose when starting a new game.

I want the opposite. I'd love data from 2008 in 2019!

Just saw on Steam that you can pre-order FM 2020 but the features will be announced "towards the end of September"
What kind of stupid shit is that!
