We have ran a fine line with the rules before in similar ways, but when looked into, there were no problems with the deals, they were done to the rules.
Fergie's issue with this, is that he suspects Spurs had this arranged and were in constant contact with the player and Liege.
It also seems obvious that this is the case. He's had 7 appearances at Liege, hasn't managed to break into their lineup i'd imagine, with such few appearances, and Spurs want him after that?
Also, just to point out, Ferguson had him on our bench quite a bit, he made a few appearances and was getting more. Fergie loaned out Fabio and offered him a new contract, he probably wouldn't have bought Buttner if he'd signed. Now he'll be starting in Spurs' development squad.

Spurs offered him more money over a longer contract than United did - its simple. He will be in playing in the Championship in a couple years though, hes not that good. Blackett is better.
Spurs were sneaky though - which is what has pissed Fergie off (quite rightly too) - took him on trial before he left us, then told United they weren't interested because of the fee United wanted in compo. Then out of the blue he signs for Liege, then in January he goes to Spurs anyway and we get a fraction of the fee we originally wanted?? Spurs had to have had a word with Fryers and Liege somewhere about this all along.
Must have missed the players we have done this with though? Anyone care to back up their "We have done similar" comments?

Whilst not similar to this, because it's far far worse, we bid for Berbatov, had the bid rejected, and whisked him up to Manchester and underwent his medical and started contract talks whilst still not having had a bid accepted.
What we did was a disgrace and each and every single one of us would be demanding blood had someone like Chelsea done that to us with Rooney (for example).
I'm sure someone will come up with a reason that what we did was actually ok, well it wasn't. He was not our player, we had not had a bid accepted, and the only reason we didn't get our arses dragged across the coals is because we backed down and agreed to pay Spurs what they were demanding as well as loaning them Campbell for the season so they wouldn't lodge a formal complaint with the FA; if they had, we'd have been fucked.
Hell, the only bid at that point they had accepted was City's, and where was Berbatov when City phoned him to tell him they had had a bid accepted and wanted to discuss a contract? In a car being driven from Manchester airport to Carrington!
Take the red tinted glasses off, that was a thousand times worse than Spurs have done here.

Spurs got over £30million for Berbatov, I never heard one complaint about this situation you're claiming. Hargreaves is the only example I can think of, off the cuff. The fact is that Spurs have fleeced us out of £5million.

ScholesEvilTwin proved on the button about Fryers. Looks like he's on the slippery slope downwards.
