Carrick probably picked this team, Ole won’t have had enough time to assess things.

I loved the way he talked up the players, saying football was easy when you can pick a team with such ability. What infuriating me was we’d seen some of the best players in the World Cup were Utd’s and then seemed to go to shite when they were playing for their club. The way Jesse played yesterday was the way he played when he helped England to the semis. We still have holes, CB and RW the two biggest by some distance, but there is a lot of talent in the squad, way more than what Jose was getting out of it towards the end.

This has been the best Christmas pressie ever. I’m truly delighted to have OGS back at the club. The result on Saturday and way way more importantly, the way we played........just lifted the gloom surrounding the club. Really looking forward to Boxing Day now. Chuffed to pieces.
Early days, but the way he conducted himself, the way he spoke of the players just fills me with confidence for the future.
Gonna nail my colours to the mast early doors ! I think he’s the ideal manager for United for the long term. We’ll have to wait and see, but I predict he’ll earn it.
Merry Christmas folks, hope you have a lovely time. Best wishes for 2019 🍷😀👍

Good lad... www.joe.co.uk/sport/reporter-solskjaer-liverpool-fan-213494Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Manchester United through and through He scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United, he took his first steps into coaching by taking charge of the club's reserves in 2008 and Solskjaer now finds himself in the dugout of Old Trafford. Last week, Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho until the end of the season and got his first game in charge off to the perfect start with a 5-1 victory over former side Cardiff City, the first time the Red Devils have scored five goals in a game since Alex Ferguson's 2013 retirement. With United in his blood, Solskjaer understandably isn't the biggest fan of arch-rivals Liverpool and that was made clear in an exchange with a Liverpool-supporting Irish reporter five years ago. JJ Devaney was covering a Champions League qualifier between Sligo Rovers and Molde, then managed by Solskjaer, and the journalist's post-match revelation that he supports Liverpool brought about an interesting reaction from the Norwegian. I went up and there were a few journalists gathered around," Devaney told the Caught Offside podcast, as transcribed by Manchester Evening News. "You know me in social situations - shameless and straight to the point - so I stuck out my hand and I said, 'Ole, I'm delighted to meet you'. "And he fixed me with those blue eyes and they are kind of piercing and he does look younger than the age he actually is. "So I shook hands with him and said, 'Listen I thought you were a fantastic player, brilliant player, and even though I'm a Liverpool fan I just wanted to shake your hand.' "You would think that's really nice. He didn't move a muscle in that face. His eyes fixed on me and he said, straight up, with no jocularity: 'If I'd known you were a Liverpool fan, I wouldn't have shaken your hand.'"

If the next mamager isn't a United man then I think this stint highlights that the DOF should be. One of the two needs to be someone who just gets the club like Ole. Some posters would know better than me but I think you'd find most of thw big clubs would have at least one of the coach or DOF being a former club man.
Maybe that's a role for Rene or Phelan. Both of them are in Aus atm.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added former Manchester United youth coach Mark Dempsey to his coaching staff. Dempsey flanked Solskjaer during his eight-month spell as Cardiff manager in 2014 and briefly assisted him at Molde last year. Dempsey had a brief spell as manager of Norwegian club Start last season and took over at Kongsvinger in June, but only lasted five months and moved back to England in November. Dempsey was highly thought of by former academy head Brian McClair, as well as Ferguson, during his time at United. "Les Kershaw assembled a fantastic staff who work extremely well together," McClair said in 2006. "They believe totally in the philosophies of the club and what we are trying to achieve in the Academy. "We have lost Rene Meulensteen to Brondby, where he has become their manager, but he left a very nice legacy. He tutored Mark Dempsey and Eamonn Malvey so they can continue the system." Mancunian Dempsey, 54, began his professional career at United and played twice for the club under Ron Atkinson in the 80s. He took on a development coaching role at the club after his playing career ended. In 2008, Ferguson commented: "Les was followed by people like Jim Ryan, Brian McClair - who's now academy director - Dave Bushell, Mark Dempsey, Tony Whelan, Paul McGuinness. "These guys have been here for over 15 years, so when I go I would presume all these lads would still be in place and working hard for United." www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-solskjaer-coaching-staff-15605611.amp?__twitter_impression=true

What does he add to the coaching staff? Well apparently he was highly rated as a coach here.
