Matic is a proven commodity and brings title winning credentials. He will be worth every penny. We've been paying a lot for potential over the years (Depay, Shaw) with mixed results. A midfield 3 of Herrera, Pogba and Matic is arguably the most balanced in the Prem. Plus he has the stone cold Serbian look to him. Not quite Vidic but pretty close!

Without wanting to pour more gasoline on this fire, I'm caught in two minds about our summer signings. First off, the fees are irrelevant bc everybody is going for stupid money this summer. If we'd have signed Lukaku and Matic 3 years ago, we'd have been ecstatic. If you'd have told us in April/May, we'd have been rather underwhelmed, as these aren't the world class names we were all lusting over. However, upon reflection, as mentioned above, we've all been guilty of burning candles for plenty of flavours of plenty of months that haven't exactly turned out. Ozil, Otamendi, Mangala, Tiote et al all spring to mind. I'm loathed to play the trust the manager card bc I didn't give Fergie that luxury, and he was the best there ever was, but there is a level of trust that Jose has earned that didn't exist under Moyes or LvG. I can understand the need to free up Pogba and Herrera so they can drive the play forward, and Jose clearly trusts Matic to reprise that role he played in his title winning sides. Fair enough. At the end of the day, Matic and Lukaku aren't going to win us the title. Mata, Martial, Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Pogba need to perform at a much higher level than they did last season if we are to challenge for the title. If Matic provides the shielding necessary to allow those players to flourish then he's the right signing at the right time. Conversely, the thought occurred to me that if Jose is serious about building a legacy and remaining long term, he knows he must build through youth. Perhaps some of the older players are stop gaps until they are ready to step in full time. I'm going to hold my fire on this summer until I see the results on the pitch. It could go either way imho. this in a nutshell for me. A 3 year deal is less than usual, but makes sense given his age. Presumably after that if he is still doing well we'll offer one year extensions each summer. I wouldn't have picked him personally, but I do think he improves us. I'll support him now he's here. The idea that he's a stopgap for younger players is good too. He could be around for 2 seasons as TFM takes more of a role before being a backup in a final year. I'm not sure whether that will be why we got him, and obviously TFM may not make the step up, but I like the idea that that is the case. also my exact thoughts. 35m + add ons i cant moan about either with some of the mental fees in this market.

Imagine if he was a Real Madrid player and we enquired about him, what transfer fee would they have asked for?

I'm undecided by this to be honest. Will give him the benifit of the doubt before I think of some kind of name for him.

Fuck it.
WELCOME NEMANJA !
I am glad to have another Nemanja in our squad once more considering how immense the last one was.
I hope he brings his 2014-2015 game here. He was a beast then.

Boooom! Mourinho's comments on him being loyal and a team player are pretty telling, clearly one of the players he doesn't blame for what happened at Chelsea and clearly trusts him. Think he'll be a really important player for us this season. Or it's a message. Possibly to Matic, possibly to our support or possibly to one or two within our squad. EDIT: It's clear that Jose is building a culture at this club and repairing Moyes' napalm job.

UNITED SIGN NEMANJA MATIC Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. The 28-year-old Serbian international midfielder has won a number of club and individual honours including league titles in both England and Portugal. Jose Mourinho said: "Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player. "I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31." Nemanja Matic said: "I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. "I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them. "This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club." I'm a bit worried about this. Jose referring to himself in the 3rd person that is, not the transfer. It's never a good sign.
