Chaps. At one stage we were new members, some of us longer ago than others. Some of us were even here from the beginning. It’s hard to remember a time when it might have been a little bit intimidating to even post let alone start a thread. RoM is a pretty friendly place and we all contribute to that. Red Cafe is busier but imo generally less welcoming and definitely less civil. And this is something none of us want to see happen here (not that it in any danger of happening.) Even still it might be hard to start a thread if you are a newbie. It’s you making a statement, diving in, really announcing yourself rather than just posting the odd “I think we should sign Strootman/Gundogan etc. And so to my point-
A board is only as strong or relevant as it’s newest members. We need them to feel comfortable here and want them to both post and start threads. If a thread is a duplicate of an existing one we’ll close or merge it. But if a new thread is started and you don’t like it, rather than posting “Oh great, we really need this yawn....” please don’t. Ignore it and move on to one that interests you. Starting a thread doesn't waste anything. There are no limits that I know of so what is the issue?
This isn't a response to anything that has happened, just a reminder that we do things differently here and I think we all appreciate it that way. We are a friendly board and we should work hard to keep it that way. And we need to make sure our newest members feel they can jump straight in there without being shot down (within reason, if it’s nonsense they will be told so firmly yet politely!)
Thanks
Stew

True that.
It's the like the first day at school, we've all had to join up at some point, and the bigger boys are scary.
And the same threads starting up all the time? It's the midfield threads, isn't it? They're just a like a painfull tooth, or a loose bit of skin by your fingernail. You know it's there, you know it's painfull, but you just can't help yourself but go back to it again and again.

Seen as this thread is my slap on the wrist for railing at a noob, let me just put this out there:
Total Members: 7,436 Total Topics: 22,039 Total Posts: 413,756
Of those 7436 members, only 3032 have ever posted. Of that 3032, 932 have posted only once.
But we have 22039 topics?? Wonder how many are unnecessary duplicates/variations on the same theme?
No wonder the search function doesn't work.
And its probably the same reason that other forums limit new users in what they can do. To save spamming the place up.

SET, this thread isn't a slap on the wrist to anyone in particular. And slaps on wrists, though rarely given, happen in private.

Also, a quick look at a random section. On the first page of the transfer section there are currently 28 rumours. Only 3 of those have been started by posters with under 100 posts. Maybe when they were started the posters had a low post count but it seems unlikely. So it doesn't really hold up that it's newbies starting threads and spamming.

Everyone look at that picture.
Now look at it again.
This is what hopefully happens to grammar nazis (please note continued lack of capital Carb).
