In the past few Champions League, We have relied heavily on the likes of Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs, while Carrick is a good passer and often wins back possesion what he lacks is a bit of flair to go past defenders and create scoring chances for himself, Giggs on the other hand has that flair but doesnt have the legs to do it on a regular basis owing to his age.Paul Scholes retirement will further weaken our midfield and we will miss his long range passing.
The likes of Anderson have failed to prove their worth at United and i will not be surprised if he leaves this summer.Cleverley is in the developing stage and should be ready for Europe in a couple of season.Fletcher has been missing for a long time now and it will be a boost if he's fit for next season but he also is a ball winner rather than a midfielder who can create chances for others and score goals himself.
We have been unlucky with our midfield i believe.A certain Hargreaves who played a crucial midfield role in our triumph in 2008 would have been our star midfielder now had it not been for an injury that ruined his career and also our midfield.
But the question now in everybody's mind is,if we do buy a midfield player than who fits the bill, both in terms of our style and budget. My answer would certainly be Luka Modric, he is out of favor at Real Madrid and was a Proven creative midfield player in his time at Spurs and knows the English game very well and would be a better option than the likes of Eriksen and Alcantara who wouldn't come cheap and have never played in the English League.
Modric on the other hand has proven his effectiveness in the English League and can certainly play a crucial role for us in the Champions League as well.he is good at creating chances for others as well as for himself, and he is definitely not shy of goal and will prove to be a matchwinner if We do get him.but the main block in a possible move could be his price tag but if We get him around £25 million than he will certainly be worth the buy.
