Right now one of the best feelings for me is that we are on top of the table and while it's still early what's most significant about our season thus far is that we have managed to stay at the top without making the amount of transfers that most of the other top 4 have done. Now there's no question that having the depth that Chelsea does gives them multiple options in changing tactics as well as dealing with injury and suspension issues, but thus far we haven't fared badly in that department either. One of my main concerns was that we would be hampered by losing players to injury yet it hasn't affected us too badly despite the obvious absence of Giggs. Other areas such as our strike force were also big question marks especially with Saha and Smith making his way back from that horrible injury. For now all of the questions of how we would fare without some key players have been answered and I for one am glad that didn't mean we had to break the bank signing every player we can get our hands on. I think for January we can focus on getting the defensive mid we need.

I think all of us all glad Rooney has come through in the last two games and found the back of the net for all of his efforts. As I was reading this blog I thought of what some commentators have said about Sheva's goal scoring ways the past two matches and couldn't help but think how much more significant Rooney's past three goals have been as they were against stiffer competition. These are the type of performances we'll need to see from Rooney during the second half of the season.
