Seen as the Game of Thrones thread is doing well i'd thought i'd talk a bit more TV. I think this is the Golden age of TV mainly due to the fact they can make every episode look like a movie due to effects costing less. Here are some shows I'm currently watching.
Dexter American Horror story How i met your mother Big Bang Theory Archer Weeds Walking Dead
Some I'd like to watch: Breaking Bad Vikings & many more

Definitely watch Breaking Bad.
I agree though, it is a golden age for TV. I think it stems from studios and writers wanting to push away from what's gone on before and also having the finances to help them. Previously shows were more formulaic, so you could only out-do previous shows by having a better script. These days I feel that the style and scope of the show can reach boundaries not seen before. Shows like breaking bad and Game of Thrones speak for themselves, but even stuff like Arrested Development - this is a show that reached new levels for a comedy sitcom. Scrubs before that did that same, imo. I think that the need to push the boundaries and try to surpass all that has gone before is a great benefit to us couch potatoes

I think the comedy got too obvious after that, Much like the new Simpsons. but yes i agree the Formula has changed which i credit to Joss Whedon but everyone probably has a different view of who pushed TV foward.

Actually I don't think its in a particularly good state at all. The main problem is how american shows are commissioned. They only get 1 series at a time, if they do badly they'll be cut off. If the do very well they'll general be dragged on past their sell by date(scrubs). It must also make it a nightmare for writers who want an overarching plot across series but wont know how long that series will last. Fortunately GoT bypasses this by being based on an already written story, maybe that's a trend we will begin to see.
There's only one good new show I've found recently and that's Suits. Science fiction has died on its arse which depresses me. 2 or 3 good shows is no golden age, even some mentioned here are very close to ending. If anything, give it a year or 2 and there'll be very little I want to watch with way things currently look.

Vikings is pretty awesome. Stopped at episode 3 so that I can seamlessly make the transition when Game of Thrones ends and not have PTSD for a month without an outlet.
Also,
Breaking Bad, House of Cards & Boardwalk Empire are some of my favorites.
Pretty gutted the American The Office ended, watched it for so many years :/

Yeah, I agree a bit with Fletch. There are loads of good shows that are cancelled after a slow debut season. Too much emphasis is put on numbers and demos now, because it's all about making money and competing.
In 2006 Studio 60 was cancelled after one season because the costs were too high, and the DVR audience weren't properly factored into the viewing numbers.
Seinfeld would be cancelled after the first season if it premiered today.
But it's like music, if you look hard enough, you can find some real quality. Arrested Development is a great example of a brilliant series not being well known. I found out about it and How I Met Your Mother years before they were big in the UK or syndicated on E4 when they were shown in the graveyard slots on Beeb 2. HBO and FX are making some quality shows too.
Also, Joss Whedon is excellent.

Its sad because a lot of shows take sometime to reach their stride, rarely in the first season does everything gel together. The whole US system is just flawed. They wouldn't do anything like Sherlock with just 3 high quality episodes per year. On Joss Whedon, himself the victim of having shows mercilessly killed to early, Firefly is the biggest tragedy in TV history. But I do have hopes from Agents of Shield which I believe pilots sometime this year

The Sopranos kicked off theis 'Golden Age.' That is year 0 as far as I'm concerned.
Also, Firefly was turd, and people only compalain about it being cancelled because it was a Sci-Fi show and Sci-Fi nerds are the worst!

I shall not be baited But beyond individual opinions, the fact a TV show that was cancelled before it even finished a first season yet managed to have a successful box office release says a lot about how clever a decision that was.

Not baiting. I've watched Firefly a few times through, as I kinda want to like it. But it's just bad. Each to their own though. Really looking forward to Agents Of Shield in the Autumn. And I'd be interested to see what a modern version of Buffy and Angel would look like. As those shows have aged horribly.

I'd prefer a program about Faith. Hmm, Eliza Dusku.

Buffy and Angel do look old but they are still ahead in script terms IMO. There's a show called Revolution which has a great idea for a show but the script drives me crazy. I know what people are saying about the Money. It looks like shows will do startups to keep themselves going.
Todd and the book of pure evil was cancelled way before it's time.
