I don't care if it's the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, we need to win this cup from here on. I don’t think anyone can say anything about the size of this competition anymore. The last time a non ‘big 6’ club won this trophy was in 2013 when Swansea won it. Let’s get this thing won. |

The squad size of the top clubs which play in Europe makes their rotated teams better than the rest, so they end up winning this even though they are not really bothered

This is our best chance of silverware by far now that Manchester City who have won this 5 times over the last 7 years have been knocked out. Incidentally they knocked us out twice at the semis stage under Ole. And we badly need a trophy. And the likely final with Newcastle would make victory that much sweeter.
With our impressive Premier League form we shouldn't require the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League. And with the new play-off round it has become a massive slog with 9 games required to win the damn thing. So hopefully we get knocked out against Barcelona so we can focus on the league and the domestic cups.
But yeah this is an acid test for Erik. All this end of the era crap he is spouting means nothing unless he can start winning trophies again and he will never get an easier route than the one he has had this year in the League Cup.

Just tempering my excitement at the prospect of winning a trophy but i'm not dismissing Newcastle either, they have momentum and like it or not Eddie Howe has got them playing really well. We were bloody lucky to win it against Southampton under Jose so not taking it as given. |

From a players perspective, you further buy into the manager, you work harder in training, listen more, any lingering doubts fade away etc For the fans, well.... we all know that we want trophies, trophies and more trophies |

We’ve been on the receiving end of some terrible decisions, some keeper masterclasses and some horrendous luck in them. Palace should have beaten us in 1990. Would you have fired Fergie in that case? Palace were shite in comparison to this Newcastle team. |
