With the teams left in the League Cup, it should be a given that we win it. Zero excuses. Fucking Newcastle? If we get to the final and lose to Eddie Howe's Newcastle the ten Hag ain't the guy. Anything can happen in a final. We’ve been on the receiving end of some terrible decisions, some keeper masterclasses and some horrendous luck in them. Palace should have beaten us in 1990. Would you have fired Fergie in that case? Palace were shite in comparison to this Newcastle team. There are obvious exceptions like ridiculous refereeing decisions, or a player getting sent off, but otherwise there are no excuses. I don't know if I would have sacked Ferguson had we lost to Palace but we aren't 30 years ago so there isn't really a comparison to be made anyway. |

Dreadful stuff This highlights the importance of just winning. Utd have played some stinkers in finals under Fergie but normally won those games. Finals are all about winning. A cup would lift the squad and us supporters. We really should win this now because we have better players and in better form than whats left. Newcastle have had a great season but you can see them tiring now in the league. |

I have had too many disappointments to count any chickens yet…

We have the best first XI and the best manager left in the competition. So we shouldn't have to rely on favourable refereeing and luck to win it.
But the reality is that our inability to finish teams off and our lack of squad depth does mean things could easily go against us if not against Nottingham Forest (two legs should be enough to mitigate for that) then in the final against Newcastle or Southampton. Having serial winners like Varane and Casemiro will be massively helpful but we also need players like Rashford and Bruno and Antony to show up and make a difference.

In the last 2 minutes, Wolves should have had 2 corners that weren’t given. Combined with the shambles from the first game, it’s clear that Liverpool were never gonna be knocked out at this stage.
