Yes entirely agree with you.
This is why I have been bleating on about Moyes not being a global brand manager. If the Glazer had wanted real success they know it would cost. The game plan is to just do enough to keep the cash flowing and ticking over without either breaking the bank or being relegated. Its marginal management that is common in business. This is where our commercial owners will fail against the Rentboys' Oligarch and the Bitters' oil Sheikehs. That's also why I think Fergie called it a day and Gill moved on. Fergie chose the one available manager who would fit that plan.

Why was Moyes desperate for a left back in the summer? By the end of the winter transfer window, we've still signed no left back but let one go? Not much make sense about our transfer policy so far. The summer feels like ages away now. Even that will be another last minute jobbie again.
We are still the worst team in the world for transfers. The Mata one was a one off. Hats off to that one.

Interesting. What if Moyes was enticed to bring MF and Baines with him and it went tits up? I think one of the reasons why our transfer policy was such a disaster in the summer was because the plan failed. Wasn't it strange why Everton dug in over Baines when the two clubs had done so much business to each other.

Not so much Globally but we broke our fair share of British transfer records over the years, Keane, RVN, Veron, Rio and Rooney(teenager). Chelsea only got close to the rio fee(2002) in 2006 when they purchased Shevchenko for £31m. Since then I think only Hazard and Torres have cost them more. Who is City`s record signing? Robinho still? Edit - Aguero was around £40m I think.
Post Glazer we have broken £30m twice now with Berba and Mata. We have also spent a lot of money too considering Young and Valencia cost us a combined £36m, Jones and Smalling were £30m, RVP £24m. Most telling of all was that we havent invested in our problematic CM since 2007 when Ando, Hargreaves and Nani arrived for around £50m, When you consider the disapointments the first two turned out to be long term, its crazy that we havent enforced that area despite money spent.

It's between us & Liverpool, their fans are currently having a barney about Ian Ayre's efficiency with their transfer dealings; he went to Ukraine for 2 days to sign a winger and has returned with nothing, less MIA than Ed in the summer admittedly. ...at least our January transfer window hasn't been as shambolic as this thus far.

Hi all, new postcrippleen reading the forum for a while. Not sure why i chose january deadline day to register and post? Quite possibly the most depressing one yet. Crying out for Fernando and nothing. Have to disagree about the Glazers. They have crippled the club in the transfer market. We used to be able to blow people out of the water, and now we are limited to one major signing a window I don't think we ever "blew anyone out of the water". We had some big signings later on in the Fergie years but he was always pretty shrewd early on, we could never compete with the buying power of Real Madrid for example. Yeah maybe, i guess im just longing for the days when we were pretty much the only ones who could spend 30M on a defender. the other clubs used to play catch up with us, now we are desperately trying to play catch up ourselves! Alas, we are not the only big boys now. Thats fine to a degree, as competition is healthy, but what saddens me is a our lack of aggression in the market. Aside from Mata, which shocked us all, we used to pay top dollar for a top players. Why havent we just paid the money? All pointless tittle tattle until summer now. Our front four is up there in the league now, and hopefully see them on pitch at once! Onwards to stoke and upwards to 4th!

I can't help but feel a little disappointed with this transfer window.
I'm very pleased we've acquired Mata from Chelsea, but the amount of players going out, and the lack of a real good winger and central midfielder is somewhat frustrating. Mata is no out and out winger. He's more or less another rival for Rooney and Kagawa for the position in the hole in between the midfield and attack. Adnan is yet another player who can play there.
We still don't have a decent left winger. Adnan has been preferred on the right, and tends to drift into the middle a lot, so our threat down the left hand side of the pitch will continue to rely on Young and Kagawa I suppose.
Then there's the central midfield. Ando out and nobody in. There is so little mobility, creativity and technical ability in our midfield it's almost embarrassing. I would say the only real creative playmaker we have among our central midfielders is Carrick, who has been very inconsistent this season, and is an injury prone. Fletcher is a good hard working player, but he doesn't create a lot. His vision and ability to pick out killer passes isn't there. Cleverley more or less the same. Jones is supposed to be playing in defense and then there is treebeard.
Another vulnerable position in the team is the left back. What do we do if Evra gets injured long term. I guess that's been a vulnerable position for a while now, but with Evra aging and his performances being more inconsistent than previous seasons it's a spot I would really like to see us secure with a quality player. Coentrao deal didn't happen. Shaw seems lost. Is there a plan here? Is Büttner that much better than Fabio? I tend to agree with some people on this forum that he would probably be better as a left winger. Then at least we would have one. Oh well.
Time will tell how successful we were in this transfer window. There is no doubt that the Mata signing is a significant step in the right direction, but with so many players leaving, especially some of the youngsters that have left on permanent deals, I can't help but feel somewhat disappointed. There's still the comment from Mata from the press conference when he was presented where he said he was happy with the players arriving next summer. Hopefully those players will be joining a team competing in the Champions League.

So...just got in from work...no need to check sky then? No mate. Fantastic! All sarcasm aside, what is our actual transfer policy? The first team players aren't good enough so we bin off the youth side? Our worst players play left back, on the wing and in central midfield so we sell the backup left back, winger and a central midfielder? One of our few talented players plays #10, so we buy another #10 but won't play them together? Surely somebody at the club has thought this through, so seriously, can somebody explain the plan here?

If you need a CM, buy an AM. If you need an LB, but a RW. If you need a GK, but a ST. Alternatively, sign lots of sponsors because it helps with our field performances. I think that's really it.
