As a player he had justifiable reasons to question the clubs ambitions. The fact that he chose to do so in such a public manner said all we needed to know about him as a person. i said this in the dedicated Rooney thread, and i think it's apt here also. What Rooney is doing now is essentially the same thing that Roy Keane did a while back, only this one is slightly less public. Neither can or should be accepted by an institution such as Manchester United IMHO. what was right for our then captain, should be the same for the wannabe captain.

I don't see how he is a bigger player than Keano was. i still think it was distasteful and quite damaging. we moved our RvN, Keano , don't see why a different yardstick has to be for rooney. beat me to it DBG

Nope you are not the only one. As you pointed out he had justifiable grounds to question the ambition of the club, the fans have been doing it since the Glazers took charge. I don't see much need of signing any more attacking midfielders/forwards, the need is still central midfield and full back positions. As a player he had justifiable reasons to question the clubs ambitions. The fact that he chose to do so in such a public manner said all we needed to know about him as a person. Stew, your words are too lenient for Rooney. His actions are not selfless. Neither can it be said that his actions are justified by the reasons. Asking the manager in quiet, "hey, I think we're weak in this area, and perhaps is it possible to work something out?" or "Would it be possible to have a reassurance?" is not akin to a public "I want to leave." and after a good few days, has his greedy-arse of an agent justify "Er, because we aren't buying players. And oh, money isn't enough." I bet anybody here to do that to their boss - say it aloud. "I'm not paid enough.", "This company isn't going in the direction I want it to go.". Let's see how many get a pay rise and how many gets a little nice memo to keep the desk clean.

Totally unrelated to transfers but Jose is working hard to make sure he has an Image Makeover.

A player setting his ways vs a player in his prime possibly. I'm not in any way saying what Rooney has/ is doing is right, neither was it for Keane, but I'd care more for Rooney at this time than Keane back then. (if that makes sense) At the end of the day if there really was turmoil behind the scenes with Rooney I have to believe that Moyes would rather him rot in the reserves than give him a payrise.

Absolute class manager and great at mind games. However, just think his personal ambitions are not in tune with United i.e. he would leave after 3, 4 years - otherwise, I'd have liked him here as a manager.

Rooney's prime was between 18-22. he ain't in his prime and will not be. repeating myself but the only reason he is fit this season and turned in more fitter than ever was cos he was sure he could wriggle his way to the rents + WC year. I will apologise if he remains the same next couple of seasons, heck even just next season but he won't. + it doesn't matter if he is at his prime or not, there are things you say and then there are those you don't publicly. Questioning the manager or the club;s ambition falls in the latter.

I seem to remember him apologising afterwards as well, admitting that he went about the situation the wrong way. That too says a lot about the person, says a lot also about those that forgot this fact too.

Questioning the manager or the club;s ambition falls in the latter. Yeh I do agree and don't approve of publicly questioning the teams ambition but what have all us fans been doing all season. Calling for Moyes' head after a few defeats. Of course that's just a small minority of fans but we were all feeling that way at the beginning of 2014. If I was Rooney and sitting there watching City and Chelsea flopping the wallets out every window I'd be getting frustrated aswell. Knowing that our own club should be doing the same. How much blame does Fergie take for all this also? We all know he's a hot head and I will not be surprised if he has made more of a deal of this than he should have also. Kicking the likes of Becks / Keane out the club for stepping out if line at the click of his fingers showed his ruthless side before. Anyways as much as I dislike Rooneys personality I want him here for another few years at least. We won't achieve anything by getting rid of him.

Not questioning the ambition but wanting out as he was being asked to play out of position. And I'm sure it was easy to apologise with a nice new paycheck.

Not that I really wish to moan, but it would be nice if the Rooney talk was encouraged to be kept in the Rooney thread. I know this is the popular thread of the moment, but I'd rather see it for awesome news/bullshit of all the World Class players were signing. Not Rooney discussion number #1476. We do have a thread dedicated to that.
