The greatest tragedy isn't that we're not doing any business today, it's that we never spent the gap between the end of the last window and the start of this one lining up some deals. Our business should have concluded on the 1st of this month with some signings that we'd previously thrashed out. When Mata became available, he should have been a wonderful bonus to add to the players we'd already signed (to play in the positions we desperately need reinforcing) this month. As it stands we've signed a wonderful player, but one who plays in a position we're not short of quality in. We're now left praying that Fletcher can play every single week and that the big Belgian will somehow magically adapt to the team and be brilliant upon his return. He's put a lot of eggs in the basket of Rooney and RVP. He's took a gamble that if they stay fit, their goals, aided by Mata, will win us games regardless of how many we concede on any given day. Problem is we've been playing shite all season and have very seldom looked like bagging a lot of goals regardless of who we've had on the pitch. No matter how many signings he signs, his offensive tactics is the main problem. When you ask your wingers to play short, and not cross, and not improve their crossing ability; and you ask your player at AM to play deep... you're basically saying to RvP, "Score from thin air please, thanks". Which to be honest, he has already done a more than a few times. I hope things improve. Maybe with them coming back, things will look better. Who knows. Last but not least, Moyes might need to stop telling players at the very last minute that they're about to start. I don't think every player knows what to do if not told in advance what the game plan is. Especially when you have players like Welbeck and Rio.

It's almost as if Dave's thinking 'We can just go into games and score more goals than them'. Kroos, Reus, a top left back and centre back in the summer and we'll look unreal. Very sceptical of all the Kroos talk though. We need a top centre mid, Moyes goes to watch Bayern AND Monchengladbach, Kroos has a tiff at being brought off early, his contract negotiations have stalled for whatever reason, Now he's United bound. It's rumour churning journalism at its best.

I think that we have the squad to still grab 4th and bringing Mata in can only help us acehive that. I just didnt want Moyes to rush out and hastily buy a big name player for an absurd amount of money and then it not working out in the long run. How many big name rush buys have we seen the rents boys go in for only to sell them a couple of years later for a 1/3 of the price?

@dtguardian: On subject of Fernando, #MUFC have said - pretty strongly - behind the scenes they were not interested in him.

Without being too judgmental, there was a clip of Wilfried Zaha giving an interview just after joining Cardiff a few minutes ago on SSN. The lad does not appear to have much between the ears. I'd love to know what has really been going on behind closed doors of the last few months! I see a lot of teams are still being linked with Nani, it appears that Moyes is abandoning the idea of playing out and out wingers and going with a more modern formation. I'd expect as to line out 4-2-3-1 for the rest of the season.Moyes would finally get my vote if he tried this out more often.....

I'm not sure we'll make fourth with this squad to be honest. Mata is great, we'll score a little more probably, but teams will still be waltzing through our midfield and keeping the ball from us, at home. Scary but true....

Sad to see Fabio go. But nice to see that he's in good hands: Fulham have signed the star player from Olympiacos. Well done Rene!

Depression Central.
4th will be tough now. Liverpool look better than us and unless the situation improves dramatically, we could be done. I don't trust this team to go on a run long enough to put us in a healthy position. Hopefully Matas signing will lift the team enough to help us cross that line.

I'm still conifdent that if we changed our formation around we could push for 4th, whether Moyes will however is another matter. Who would you have liked to have seen come in who you thought would of made an immediate impact for us?

So the two glaringly obvious weaknesses in our team have once again been ignored, not only that we have loaned/sold our two reserve LBs, leaving us with Evra as our only LB (Buttner doesnt count). Genius. Is Tunnicliffe really worse than Giggs in CM? I cant believe Rene would want him if he is. Its just as well Valencia is the best winger in World Football, I have lost count of his goals and assists, he is so good infact that he needs no competition for his place, squad depth is vastly over-rated anyway. We are playing the worst Football I have seen in my 30 years of watching Manchester United. What is even worse than the quality of the Football is the lack of fight, the dropping of standards is scandalous. There is zero confidence. Whos to blame? Who has turned a side that have been Champions in 5 of the last 8 seasons to sub-Everton levels? Into a mirror image of his gormless self? David Moyes. Who is responsible for the worst decision in the History of Manchester United and who is too fucking stubborn to admit they fucked up big time and rectify their massive error? SAF. Moyes claimed he knew what was needed when he arrived, he did bid for Baines but Everton wouldnt play ball which is unfortunate for us as he is the only LB currently playing Football. Two windows have passed and we couldnt even find 1 LB! Seriously? Moyes is negative, he is tactically clueless and totally bereft of anything resembling a philosophy of play, never mind our usual exciting style that has attracted our World wide support (that isnt guaranteed to stick around for our Everton years). We need a manager that can get the best out of our players, not strip their confidence to shredds. Moyes needs to fuck off ASAP, if Fergie doesnt like it he can fuck off too. Broken record.

Interesting how things have have panned out. Fergie retired to spend more time with his wife in New York enjoying the culture. Seven months later he joins Europe curiously not far from Gill. The two also got Moyes who didn't cost a lot and unlike any other top managers has obviously promised to keep within tight budgets. Moyes spends £30 million last year after a lot of promises. Then this year he spends £40 million after a lot of promises and forced on him by a disastrous conclusion of the season. Whether we make 4th or not I bet we spend no more than £40 million. While at the same time of loading a group of players to balance the books.
I might be wrong but I think Moyes and Woodward are trying to buy in seasonal tranches of about £40 million maximum and filling important positions. I think Fergie gave the clue in saying the transformation will be long and arduous. I expect two players in summer and one or two next January (2015). I bet Moyes he knows he has three years to build the team through this method. I also think players will be released like Rio but not replaced. The team will be reduced until young players and the new form a team in 2016.

It's also something I can see the Glazers buying into as well from their expierence with their NFL team, most NFL teams go on a re-building era. However I wonder if they will all stick to their guns if we miss out on the champions Lg and our stock starts sliding. I don't think we will ever do a Leeds United but it could become uneasy for the club and thats when people tend to make rash descions.
