Think Kam was trying to spark a debate in here.
Bit of a sticky subject.
I'm out.

I'll dive right in...
the whole "the syrian gov is nuff bad because they used chemical ali weapons so we need to go topple them" excuse is pap, especially since the 'rebels' have also admitted using them.
In summary- just let the syrian's get on with it

Don't care who has used chemical weapons on who.
Innocent people are dying so we should be doing something. Maybe not marching into Damascus, but something.

Im really torn. I think they should step in, the media can post video of Syrian children convulsing in what surely was some of their last minutes and bodies being lined up but they dont dare show any of the pictures from Newtown because its all too close to home. All in all theyd like to think they are distanced from the world and its problems but I would have to agree (surprisingly) with John Kerry if they dont step in your setting the stage for these weapons to get used in other turbulent parts of the world more frequently.
Sufficient intervention to eliminate these weapons could be achieved with an alarmingly small operation if done right and it shouldnt last too long. We can call it "Operation Just the Tip". Apart from the Chemical Weapon issue, yeah you just have to let them settle their own disputes, unfortunately its being done in a gruesome way.
The amount of people displaced and taking refuge for instance in the camps in Jordan is shocking. Meanwhile people here in the states still get on complaining that their Machiatto Coffee had to much cream or give two shits what Miley Cyrus is doing.

Stay well clear. It's a minefield of political suicide. The Russians are funding Assad, but will probably help America out in someway too. There have been reports of Israeli commandos operating in Syria for the last few months, targeting the newly supplied Russian missiles, and there's been stories of UK and US special forces training rebel groups in the North. There are also supposed to be Russian Spetznaz and Iranian Revolutionary Guard there too
America don't mind chemical weapons being used when they're the ones pointing out the targets. Or when the person using them is useful to them at that time.

^ Great point. The chain reaction could be colossal and no one can predict what would happen in a month, a year, 10 years due to intervention of whatever sort.

So in the meantime we wash our hands of it and let innocent people get slaughtered?

a fundamental question Bestie: who should be the world's peacekeepers? the USA? The USA and it's allies? the UN?
i personally believe it should be the UN, and if it's the UN then no single country, irrespective of how it perceives it's role as 'the best of the best', should have the right to have an act of aggression towards another country.
Assad is a vile human being, but when the alternative is to significantly aid Al Queda (who is aiding the rebels in large part)then the question must be asked if intervening is the correct course of action by the USA, France and the 'allies'. these are the same guys that once Assad is gone, will take up the cause against 'the west'. it's inconceivable to me that openly arming and fighting alongside the rebels (Al Queda) is an option.
no hands are clean here, and the innocent people continue to be the ones to feel the brunt of the real life 'Game of thrones', as i put it. but an attack on Assad by any force other than the UN is wrong IMHO. and if the UN cant come to an agreement on that, then what hope is there for a consensus on anything?

So in the meantime we wash our hands of it and let innocent people get slaughtered? Sadly it has got to the stage now that, if military action is the only way, then yes, innocents will have to suffer. Why should our troops die for a country that dont give a fuck about us? And especially when we get painted as the bad guys along with it too. Sorry, but there are better things to waste money and troops lives on. Havent we been involved in enough wars that dont really affect us??

Watch this guys, one of my mates posted this on his Facebook a while back, after spotting it online. Fascinating, and most likely true. Frightening and interesting at the same time.
